are there any books that describe the details of the personalities (types) of constitutional remedies? There's one called Personality of the major constitutional remedies but if any others had more, or the lesser ones it would be great. Thanks in advance.

I think Philip Bailey's Homeopathic Psychology is a good start. It contains about 24 constitutional profiles. Catherine Coulter also has a three volume work out that covers a number of constitutions, but don't know how many. But it is three books.

Another book that is interesting is Luc DeSchepper's What About Men? which explains the male homeopathic constitutions and puts then into the context of the five elements of accupuncture.

Personality is not disease.

anyway -- if you wish for cures, you may as well use remedies according to their health-altering capacities recorded in the MMP.

No, but some constitutions have tendencies for certain issues. The nat m. type can have problems with men, for example. Ignatia can be the type to always get her heart broken. It isn't saying exactly what your personality is but more like the parameters of your personality. Or, to put it another way the profiles can explain the areas of concern. Phsophorus can become a loner because they can feel other people's emotions. They hide away to avoid all the suffering of other people.

It doesn't really tell you someone else's personality but explains specfic areas that may cause some problems for a particular constitution.

But on this subject, one of the great things about studying homeopathy is how you can see patterns throughout the whole profile. I am a sepia. One pattern running through sepia is about being grounded: grounded in her body, grounded in reality, grounded in common sense, and grounded also means intuition. I would never have seen myself in this light if it were not for homeopathy. But that is a strong pattern running through the sepia personality. But not the only one.

Indifference is another pattern. I can be indifferent to people, indifferent to children or mothering, indifferent to sex, indifferent to other people's opinion, etc. And this is how you see WHERE the personality goes off into some unhealthy area. I also think my indifference can make me an objective decision maker. My indifference can be unhealthy or it can be an asset. But homeopathy does give you a map in which to see what areas of your personality are likely to be sources of problems. I can see from the profile how this indifference is an asset and in what areas of my life it can become an unhealthy state.

There are paterns like this in other constitutions, I think. So, it is not just about specific aspects of the personality but the overall view of how these aspects seem to be related to each other by this pattern.

The Materia Medica (at least some I'm trying to decide which to get) have a preliminary description before where it gets into individual parts of the mind, body, generalities, that give some details that could for many remedies be considered 'personality'. I guess also while some 'personality' is inherent and not part of illness, other aspects could be pathological.. Like it seems to me that *too much* shyness as for say Nat Carb, or too much aggression (eg Stramonium), or too much more or less sociopathy (eg Platinum)--could be themselves signs of unhealthiness not just to be dismissed as "oh, that's just John Doe, he was born that way". Not everyone is born healthy in either body or mind, and that could apply to personality too.

We were discussing Jacob, and I noticed that at one point he wrote (prob in things he then editted out???) that he had been prescribed Sulphur by a homeopath and immediately on taking it he had the feeling that it was a special thing meant specially just for him and no one else in the world and that for just a moment he had had a sense of (?) something like seeing into the essential nature of the universe or some such -- since it disappeared, I cannot recall the details. But it was a weird thing. I thought if he had reported it to his homeopath it might have been considered a proving or aggravation symptom, not necessarily a positive result even though his experience of the wondrous almost religiously ecstatic moment he believed it to be, is presumably a lot more pleasant than the sort of aggravation or proving that might manifest as a migraine headache or some such. That kind of aspect of Sulphur is right in the description of it I have in my Boericke. People who think they are superior etc.

Funny you posted on the subject of Sulp. constitution. My 13 yrs. of marriage to a classic sulp. has firsthand insight on the ups and downs/good and bad traits of this remedy. And yes a well indicated remedy will balance all of the rough stuff to say it simply. My husband has been a verry balanced sulp. due to my prescriptions when he gets a bit off kilter.He asks for a booster of sulp. I have also interactions with sulp. constitutions that are way off Balance (not on homeopathy) they are still the same ecentric,wise,egotistical,messy sul. but completely out of wack,with loads of ailments,habits of drinking/drug abuse,compulsive women chasers,mental and emotional roller coasters...........If they only had a dose of sulp............ So the remedy does not change the CORE of the essence of the soul just an balance of energy physical and mental.

This applies to all the constitutional remedies............. not just sulp.

by the way the MM does not go into details regards essence,constitutional traits,not deep enough only a skim of the mind symptoms then the physicals.You need different books like the ones that have been listed.
