COMMON INDICATIONS OF MAGNESIUM GROUP:
Ailments from: Suppression or control of emotion and discharges; change of weather; Sun, contradiction, dentition, cold wind, cold bathing, catheterisation, starvation, alcohol, diuretics, excess of digitalis, diarrhoea, LV. fluids with magnesium free fluids during haemo-dialysis, artificial milk, feeding with cow milk, excess of Calcium tablet during pregnancy.
1. Direction of action: Magnesium has centripetal action. The cause lies within the body and it is useful in diseases developing from within outward (centre to periphery).
2. Miasm: Sycotic. .
3. Constitution: Stout, fair and flabby. Skin.is pale, puffy, oily, and waxy with slow healing and scar formation. Premature loose skin, hangs down, lax fiber. There is no oedema or retention of water underneath the skin. The body is light weight like density of wood.
4. Pain and inflammation: Non-inflammatory, pain+l
All the complaints are spasmodic and neuralgic (bronchial asthma, dysmenorrhoea, colic- renal, biliary, intestinal; angina pectoris; epilepsy; convulsions, facial neuralgia, Parkinsonism, mi9raine, sciatica etc.)
5. Sphere of action: Muscle, nervous tissue- axons, C.S.F., bones, teeth, brain, sexual organs.They take part in the formation of spongy, hard but light, alkaline tissues and secretions, e.g. muscles, tendons, ligaments, ducts, tubes, bones, blood and blood-vessels, nerve cells and its axons; pleura, peritoneum, synovial membranes, connective tissues, endocrine gland's secretion, etc. Metabolism poor; growth and development retarded.
Muscles. tendons. ligaments: Paresis, tendency to relaxation and loss of muscle power (Hernia, Prolapse, displacement, sprain, subluxation, ptosis, varices etc.). Neuro-muscular iunction: Spasm and excitability.
Glands (Tonsil, cervical, lymph nodes, liver, prostate, breast, thymus, RES etc.) Tendency to hypertrophy, infiltration and induration of glands therefore useful in tumors benign and malignant.
Endocrine oland: Secretion decreases. Pancreatitis with diabetes, hypercholesteremia, etc.
GIT: Rebound hyperacidity and cathartic action.
Bone. blood and blood vessels: Bones are brittle and osteoporosis. Blood vessels calcified. Teeth decayed. Anaemia.
Connective tissue: Calcified.
Skin and its appendages: Skin is pale, puffy with warts, scar, and keloid formation. Nails thickened brittle.
6. Tongue, taste and discharges: Tonaue: Dry tongue with vesicles, difficult to move. Constant spitting of acidic saliva. Ranula under the tongue. Sour taste in the mouth.
Discharges: Discharges are acidic, copious, sour, black, fishy, pitch like, staining fast, indelible (perspiration, menses etc.) or protracted, thick, bloody and mucoid. Normal discharges are colourless (colourless salts). Abnormal discharges aregreenish in colour (as Mg++ is strong reducing agent).
7. Depth of action: Physiological to functional level. Depth of action lies between Be < Mg < Ca.
8. pH reaction: Alkaline in nature. It maintains alkalinity in the body by
excreting the acidic secretion. .
9. Thermal modality: Magnesium has lack of vital heat, i.e. it is chilly. It shows exothermic reaction at higher temperature. Extreme weakness and lack of vital heat but desires cold open air. Chflly person but with burning sensation locally.
10. Sensitivity and susceptibility (reactivity): It is poor. Excitation at mental and physical level on repeated provocation. Impulses travel very rapidly on slightest external stimulation; and repeated stimulation produces tetany and fatigue.
It is highly electro-positive and forms electrovalent bonds. It has deep attachments with family, friends, society, job, etc. and sees that these attachments are not broken. .
11. Reversible or irreversible changes: Mg++ acts as catalyst in the reaction. Ca H, 5rH and Ba H are precipitated and deposited in the body when Mg and fat are deficit. On their deposition, the cells become inert and indolent or have increased meiosis in the deposited tissues. Parenchymatous tissues are calcified. The reaction is difficult to reverse.
12. Electro-magnetic forces: Its salts are inert at room temperature. They show little electromagnetic properties or ferromagnetic properties.
13. Food habits: Aversion: Meat, vegetable, bread, butter, coffee, milk, cooked food. Intolerance of milk in any form.
Desire: Bread, butter, milk, cold drinks, meat, vegetable, refreshing fruits, sour, sweet, strange things during pregnancy.
14. Mind (Magnesium): During the disease state, emotion and action behaviour affects the person simultaneously. There is gradual deterioration of intellectual faculty and imbalance of mind and body occurs. He becomes slow and sluggish at physical level. Body is reluctant to obey the commands of higher centers of brain. Person is introvert or reserved. He develops mental symptoms from sexual excess or loss of vital fluids like vomiting, diarrhoea, sweating, etc. Mental symptoms develop in children where there is a history of being neglected, or of being unwanted by the parents.
Affective unipolar mood disorder. He gets excitable and irritable easily but also cools down immediately. His nature is submissive type. He hates aggression, violence and avoids quarrel. He likes peace and does not want to hurt anybody. He wants love, security and recognition. In their absence he develops conflict. He becomes sad~'n1orose and frustrated, and ultimately suppressed anxiety develops indifference and depression.
He has strong desire for company. He always wants to remain in company and in a group. He lives like orphan. He dare not develop his potential, so his talent remains hidden. .
He must be occupied in some work. > when occupied. < thinking of complaints or when free. He dwells constantly on the past and has very little anxietY-about his future. His mood is changeable or alternating. Happiness alternates with unhappiness. Sadness alternates with hilarity. Sadness < morning, evening, during rest. He is oversensitive to external stimuli e.g., light, touch, noise, etc. He startles by external stimulation.
He has Fear, fear of death. He gets frightened easily. Suppressed anxiety with fear. Marked fear and phobias which are manifested at subconscious level in the form of dreams and delusions. Fear of loss of friends and family support. Dreams of falling, dead relatives, death of relatives, of danger- flood, water, being alone or left behind e.g. person is left behind on railway platform and train departed with all the relatives. Insecurity develops In children of divorced or quarrelling parents and In orphans.
He cannot concentrate, as his mind gets fatigued. He is forgetful. He does not want to tax his brain. Concentration is very difficult for him. Dullness of mind. He does not recognize relatives. Thinking of complaints or mental exertion aggravates him.
He is slow, sluggish, imbecile and indolent. He avoids physical work. He avoids contradiction. He has to live and therefore he lives accordingly. Majority of times he remains idle and submissive. He has inclination to sit. He pretends and makes excuses one after other.
He has no conflict or dissatisfaction in life, as there is no target or goal in life. Expectations in life are vanished. He neither takes responsibility nor performs duty. He controls the impulse. He looks at negative side in himself. He feels humiliated or hurt and ultimately rejection and afeellng offorsaken develop. He is passive and restraint. He has to work hard to please others. He needs security and support He is hasty in speech, stammers few words and finqs difficulty in articulation. He js capricious. He loses control over ,~liminating discharges.
15. Modalities: Aggravation: Sweet, fat, touch, mental exertion Amelioration: Pressure, warm application, bending double, hanging down of limbs.
16. Remedy relationship: Magnesium has close relationship with Zinc. Magnesium is complementary to Calcarea, Strontium, Baryta.
