A premenopausal woman has the following problems:

- her BP goes up just before her menstruration cycle and stays high (148/95) for about a week. The other three weeks her bp is normal (120/80)

- During that troubled-week she has (1) intense itching in the lower eye-lids specially around the tear-ducts & (2) intense frontal headache.

She did all the tests through her GP and her gynaecologist -- they were not much help.

Her homeopath tried 'Lachesis 200' -- this caused aggravation. Later she was on 'Natrum Mur 200' -- that also did not help.

I wonder, if you GURUs have any suggestion.

Thanks in advance.

Dear Kalyan,

What were the symptoms of the aggravation from the "LACH"?

Does she have a thyroid condition? Has she had it checked?

Is she on ANY medication?

Is she a coffee drinker? If so, how much a day?

Sorry for the delay in replying.

1.Lach aggravations - bleeding from around anus, intensified headache, extreme uneasiness, no change in blood pressure

2. Her thyroid condition was checked. she does not have a thyroid condition.

3.She is now taking 1.5 tablets (0.75 mg) of Atenolol per day. She still has these bouts of a week of hypertension per month.

4. Other tests included urine, blood sugar, cholesterol (Total 230 but HDL was high, so the ratio was good).

5. Other Symptoms

a) Sleep not at all sound when pressures are high.

b) Hypertension condition appears to come in cycles and goes down without any change in activity after a few days (5-6-7 days) -- this was happening before onset of menstruration -- but now menses are not regular (quite infrequent) so this connection cannot be judged.

c) When BP is up -- a cold shiver runs down the spine -- sometimes head feels light -- taste in mouth is strange (not bitter or sweet but very different - a bit metallic!)-- feels like going to the loo - frequent urination and bowel movement for a few times -- feels very uneasy all over - no desire to talk -- feels chilly in general --toes feel a bit cold -- feel anxiety -- BP goes up without any change in normal routine

d) Two days back tip of mid finger on right hand felt like a sharp needle prick. Ther was no outside injury. After that point on the tip of the finger became blue black. That same afternoon the BP went up. Before that the pressure was normal everyday.

Have a good look at gelsemium, you may find much you recognise. And although the menses do not coincide with the BP, and thus seem not to be indicated, I would not dismiss this too lighly, as still when they are supposed to appear, there is a higher BP. Thus the petuitary gland, which regulates the cycles and thus BP, produces the BP, but no longer the bleeding. Yet BP meaning blood pressure, we see that it is still connected with that blood that does not flow. If she likes exercise, you may try Sepia. If the complaints are left sided, the Lach may have been chosen, but Asterias could also have served. Nat.m. could be there, but is included under Asterias, which has symptoms ranging from nat.m. to lach., to Seoia. I like the sea remedies, becasue they go so deep, and especially in female troubles, which deal with the 'water of life,' we see that the remedies derived from the oceans help us out where we may find ourselves stranded.

Yesterday meneses appeared and almost by magic the BP dropped to 117/75. All the other symptoms relating to high BP {metallic taste, chill down the spine, uneasiness etc.) disappeared.

Day before yesterday she was administered a dose of Calc.carb 200.

However, the flow is rather less and the BP has gone up again to 139/90

So, there is a distinct relationship with discharge.

Her GP (allopathic) does not relate this yeo-yeoing of BP to her premenstrural condition!

I checked carefully all the remedies mentioned so far in Concordant MM. None of them appear to be very convincing.

Any more ideas!! Thanks in advance.

Dear Kaylan,

Was "LACH" administered when flow just ended? If not , then when (in reference to flow)? What potency?

"Lach" may still be remedy; just wrong timing (directly after flow ended);creating unnecessary aggravation.

Has she ever had 'cortisone' treatment(s)?

Yo -yo behaviour suggest tuberculinum or pulsatilla, i would go for tub, as calc has showed some reaction.

She never took cortisone treatment.

A dose of Lach 200 was given few months back just before the menses. This aggravated her condition.

But her symptoms are mostly on the right side now (when she has headache and eyeache during menses) so I thought Lach may not be appropriate.

Sometime back I gave her Puls. She had initial good response. But later her BP worsened.
