Wrong medicine killed woman
Monday February 13, 2006
A woman being treated for a stomach complaint died after she was mistakenly given medicine intended for a patient who had previously occupied her hospital bed, health officials confirmed yesterday.
Barbara Maguire, 51, thought to be from Glasgow, was admitted to Stobhill hospital in Glasgow in 2004. NHS Greater Glasgow admitted to the error yesterday, and said it had taken action to prevent a repetition. A spokesperson said: "Regrettably, Ms Maguire received medicine which had been prescribed for a patient previously in that bed."
Ms Maguire's partner of 25 years, Thomas Bryan, told the Scottish Mail on Sunday he was still seeking information about his partner's death. "I'm still waiting for answers," he said.
