Default Hemochromatosis

My son, age 26, just called me and said that the doctor suspects that he may have hemochromatosis. He needs to go to the lab and be retested. I have read that Hemochromatosis means that the amount of iron in the blood is excessive and an effective treatment for hemochromatosis is to remove blood. (Like giving blood)

I came up with one remedy...lachesis...Bet there are others. (I don't even know, if this is a correct remedy, what the amounts {x,C, LM, etc.} should be or for how long he should take a remedy.)

Has anyone had success in using homeopathy for this disease?

Thanks for your help.

Default Plant the seeds of doubt

There are many areas of controversy in this field.

If this was present it would have been shown up before age 26.

A number of genetic disorders can result in the accumulation of excess iron in the body. These causes of hereditary hemochromatosis include defects in genes encoding HFE, transferrin receptor 2, ferroportin, hepcidin, and hemojuvelin. Hepcidin, with its cognate receptor, ferroportin, has emerged as a central regulator of iron homeostasis; all of the known causes of hemochromatosis appear to prevent this system from functioning normally.

The logical thing to do is to look at

a- the glandular system

b - the antidotes to ferrum -iron - in the MM. these include Arnica- Belladonna - Hepar Sul , a good bet - Ipec and Pulsatilla.

Any orthodox treatment is liable to have an element of experimentation.
As the liver is involved the liver remedies may also apply.

Default hemochromatosis

Thank you for your information on hemochromatosis. It made me feel a tad better since I have done so much research on the internet and with my homeopathic books. I was feeling rather low after reading some of the articles from different web sites and there is even a Hemochromatosis Society. (http://www.americanhs.org/)

Yes, I did look into some liver remedies, also.

I value the opinions of professionals on this thread. I will do and look into everything that you have stated. I firmly believe in homeopathy and its effects on the body. My husband is living proof!!

God Bless,
Susan

Passkey, Sometimes I feel/find, getting occasional and persisting excess gastric acid secretions which may cause better digestion(reduced iron) so improved absorption, heme/non-veg foods and iron supplements may be related to ironoverload as only one mg is only daily excreated against many mg intake. In consideration of constitutional prescribing--homeopathic,ayurvedic and others, acid-base and water imbalances can be of prime importance. Probably, genetic imbalances are mediated by causing persistent imbalances in these three. Prime understandings of these three imbalances representing environment as such , in case of any disorder may of primarily importance. Right??
