Hello,
I fractured my foot (5th metatarsal) June 29, 2005, and am seeking advice. My bone is not healing after over 3 months. I was put in a fiberglass cast for only 2 weeks. When it came off (Jul 14) the Ortho. Dr. said the x-ray showed improvement. He put me in a soft walker-cast. I slowly began to walk and did so for 3 1/2 weeks. At that time, (Aug 8) the x-ray didn’t look good. It wasn’t improving, in fact looked worse to me. He said keep it on for 2-3 more weeks and if not healed, he would put some pins in it. I think he took the cast off too soon, or at least should have told me not to walk for a couple more weeks. Anyway, at that point I went back on the crutches; no weight on the foot for 5 more weeks (till 9/12). Got another x-ray and took all 4 x-rays to another Dr. for second opinion. He also wanted to do surgery to put in pins, a plate, and also take some bone matter from my heel to add to it since he said I was now starting to loose calcium or bone mass. For the next 3 weeks I used a therapy foot bath & essential oil massage to get some blood flowing down there, magnet therapy, lots of minerals & vitamins. For 5 days (since 10/5) I have been using Symphytum Officinale 30C - 5 pellets 3x day (the dose that the label indicates, made by Boiron, bought at local health store), and massaging foot with a bone, flesh, cartilage ointment containing comfrey and other leafs and roots - 3x day; also using liquid mineral supplement. Am I taking the right remedy? Am I taking the right dosage? And, how long do I continue this? Someone else was kind enough to respond to my query on a different site and suggest Symphytum mother tincture along with Calc Phos 6x. Does anyone else have anything to add? Thank you very much. All advide would be very much appreciated. Jill |

I would suggest that you use the Wet Dose of Arnica 30c which is made up as follows:
Method to be followed to make the wet dose. Get a 500ml bottle of spring water Pour out 100ml Put in 3 globules or 1 drop if you have the liquid remedy. Hit the bottle hard on your palm or a cushion and watch for the water to fizzle like when you open a bottle of soda. This is called succussion and increases the potency of the remedy very slightly which in turn increases the effect it has on the body to recover. Sip a teaspoonful as recommended above 3 times daily. I do hope that the Arnica will help your foot to recover without further surgery. It is obvious that your surgeon was too hasty to take the plaster off too quickly. Please note that you must rest your foot perhaps in plaster again to enable it to heal.
