At present, the registering bodies for homeopaths are The Faculty of Homeopathy, The Society of Homeopaths, The Alliance of Registered Homeopaths and the Homeopathic Medical Association.

The Faculty of Homeopathy provides training and registration for healthcare professionals that includes doctors, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, podiatrists and vets. The other 3 registering bodies are for lay homeopaths, with no other existing medical/healthcare qualifications.

At present, there is no legal requirement for any homeopath to join any of the registering bodies. So yes, at present, anyone can set up in practice and call themselves a homeopath with no qualifications.

Having said this however, most qualified homeopaths want to join one of the registering bodies, as one obtains the benefits of registration and this includes practitioner insurance too. If a homeopath applies to join one of the registering bodies, they will want evidence of homeopathic qualifications. This includes your diploma or degree certificate from the institution that you graduated from and there are also other requirements that need to be fulfilled before full membership is granted.

The Faculty is slightly different however, in that healthcare practitioners such as doctors, nurses and vets etc already have their own professional registering bodies and insurance bodies and can practice homeopathy within the scope of this professional registration. Doctors are registered with the general medical council, vets with the royal college of vetinery surgeons, nurses with the nursing and midwifery council, dentists with the general dental council etc.

At present the "lay" bodies are trying to bring in the single register, where the 3 previous bodies will amalgamate into one single register of homeopaths. They are trying to initiate self-regulation as the Osteopaths and Chriopractors have done, so that if you do not belong to the register, you will not be able to call yourself a homeopath. This is title protection, as anyone not registered with the General Osteopathic Council cannot call themselves an Osteopath or practice as one.

The acupuncturists are still going down this route at present.

This is the position as it stands at present.

Thank you Sarah-I.

I note that your .sig makes no mention of any of the homeopathy qualifications, but states that you are "RN, Homeopath and Cranio-Sacral Therapist". Does that mean you are not registered with any of the registration bodies ?

Also, I find it a bit disingenuous of Lisa to have answered my genuine query the way she did.

And I'm sure you would all object if I were to sign my postings with:

"Blue Bubble, B.Sc., Homeopath"

even though there would be nothing to legally stop me from doing so.

So the bottom line is that, at present, anyone can call themselves "Homeopath" and practice homeopathy in the UK. Is this different in other countries ?

In my sig line, I just find it easier to state what I do rather than the qualifications, but yes, I am a member of all the appropriate registering bodies for what I practice.

There would be nothing to stop you stating on your sig line "BSc homeopath". The thing is that we would all know that it is not true now wouldn't we?

All the regulations are different for different countries. Pakistan is quite strict I think and perhaps India, but in several European countries such as France, you must be a registered medical practitioner to be able to practice as a homeopath.

I think England has the least restrictions to practice at present as it stands.

Of course, you are much too fickle to come back and post here. Now why should that not surprise me? Instead you go running back to your little pals at Randiland - have you ever managed to get beyond kindergarden level let alone manage to get a degree?!!

I think you are a TROLL.

You can of course put what you like in your signature line, but just remember that everyone around here knows the real truth about you and don't ever forget that!!

Suggesting someone look information up on google is in no way meant to 'portray' anything as particularly easy or otherwise. Nor is it a 'disingenuous' suggestion when one CAN look up this information for themselves. The information IS available if one cares to search for it.
It's not rocket science.

However, Sarah has kindly made the effort to answer your question.

Incidentally, this thread was initiated to ask about legal requirements for practising homeopathy in Dubai. Not UK. In future, keep on topic or start your own thread. And, be warned now - that deliberate attempts to twist what other people say will not be tolerated on this site.
If you wish to have genuine discussion about homeopathy - go for it. If, on the other hand, you wish to get clever and stir up trouble - you will be banned. Consider this a first warning.

Thank you Sarah for laying it out succinctly - as it stands presently.
