"The theory of drainage consists therefore in the purification of an intoxicated organ , that represents some symptoms which may be classifiedaccording to the successive organic spheres and the complete and rapid extinction of these symptoms cannot be had without the application of many remedies. The practice of drainage is to follow or precede the principle remedy indicated , by the application of one or more satellite remedies with the aim of making easy the toxic elimination in a given morbid condition, to check aggravation and to obtain a more rapid and sure result."
