Most provings are carried out according to a protocol nowdays.

These are called "Proving Guidelines" and have been published by the Society of Homeopaths, which is the largest registering body for homeopaths in the UK.

A copy of the guidelines for provings can be obtained by writing to the Society of Homeopaths.

Of course, the proving protocol can also be found in The Organon as well!

Hi Sarah-I,

Does this document exist online anywhere ? URL ?

What does one have to do to register with the Society of Homeopaths ?

Thanks in advance.

I am not sure whether "Proving Guidelines" are available online, but the Society of Homeopaths have a website and you can either write to them or e-mail them to request a copy that they will gladly send to you.

To register with the Society you actually need to be a homeopath or a student of homeopathy at an acredited college to register as a student member.

Lisa of course is quite correct in that a full proving protocol is in the Organon itself.

And the Organon is available online - so you should be able to get your hands on proving-protocol quite easily.

The answer is that the "standardized" protocol is somewhat a Wim P outlines (and which is taken more or less verbatim fron the Organon of Medicine, by Samuel Hahnemann).

{{A number of provers are given the remedy over several days, and whatever they observe is noted down. The master prover, a homeopath then assesses the collected observation and determines which are to be taken as proving symptoms. There are a number of variations, and sometimes one or two of the provers are given placebo, but the reason for this is unclear, since the placebo provers are not actually used as reference.

The process is not blinded, and is entirely based on subjective observations (no medical parameters are monitored), and the selection of symptoms to be attributed to the remedy is also subjective.}}
EDIT: MRC_Hans, this is your understanding. People who are qualified to answer have already answered. Please refrain from advising anyone in any capacity about homeopathy on this bulletin board - whether it's medical advice or your understanding of homeopathy. You can argue and debate whatever you feel are salient points about the efficacy (or not) of homeopathy on the Research and Scientific Validity Forum. Consider this a warning.

Hans
