I truly appreciate how difficult it can be. 4 years seems like a long time; 7 years is certainly a fair old while! However, If I really didn't see any point in continuing, I wouldn't.
I am re-reading Vithoulkas' book and once again noting all the many reasons which might be contributing to the slow progression of my case. In addition to all the reasons I mentioned in a separate post a while back. There are many, of course. Have spend half a lifetime taking antibiotics, contraceptives, anti-depressants, without really stopping to think about the underlying reasons for taking these (i.e. without ever contemplating really learning to make my life less depressing, deal with my sexuality and fertility without suppressing ovulation, or just adjust my lifestyle to improve my immunity). I suppose I just wanted my body and mind to shut up and stop thowing out these inconvenient symptoms. Until recently. And now I'm saying, "I'm sorry. I didn't realise. Please give me my health body back!" I'm firmly convinced that homeopathy is capable of delivering on its promise. I'm saying this having initially rejected homeopathy on the basis that there were no molecules of the original substance left in most remedies, therefore no possibility of any therapeutic action. I really wish I'd taken a closer look at the time - then I'd be a couple of years further down the road. But there ya go! The truth is that I am making some progress, it's just not fast enough for my liking. I'm prepared to admit that this may be of my own doing. And I'm grateful that homoepathy is helping at all. Just concerned to do everything possible to ensure I'm not inadvertantly still holding things up. I can definitely feel things changing within. But also have observed some small actions of homeopathic remedies when I've used them for my family. Now I'm not a homeopath, my understanding is limited, and I'm not at all sure I've been doing the right thing (ideally I'd like them to go to a classical homeopath, of course, but since they haven't seen my liver go down they're not so convinced that they're prepared to pay for this service). However, I've tried a couple of things and they've definitely had an effect. A couple of examples:- 1. 8 year old niece troubled by her unattractive fingers, covered in squishy warts. They'd been like that for several years and were getting worse. I tried Sulphur 30c (based on this and other symptoms) and within a week they'd started to flatten, after 2 weeks nearly gone, a month later no sign and she's been out with my sister to buy a new ring that she can show off to her friends. I also take her good mood and increasing confidence as a positive sign and only hope I didn't use homeopathy suppressively in this case, but, guess what, I got a R E S U L T. 2. 12 yo niece stood on a sharp piece of coal on the beach and didn't manage to clean it out entirely. 6 months later there's still an irritating bit of black material in there. I give Silica 6c and within 24 hours, out it comes. 3. My mother then says, "Oh, I wonder if that would get rid of the bits of coal dust in my knees from falling down on coal in my childhood". So I try again with Silica. And in this case don't get the result I'm looking for with her knees. However, she reports that a huge amount of old stale earwax has been coming out over several days - probably good to get this out and she definitely said she'd never seen anything like it (she's 72). So not THE result, but A result. Stimulus - response. 4. My son is extremely emotional and upset over a few days, won't even consider going to school and is on the verge of tears. I give ignatia 30c. Within half an hour he's OK and actually wants to go back. 5. Sister is v self conscious about her breast size and shape - demolished after continuing to breast feed her second daughter when she really wasn't herself taking in a good diet after her husband died suddenly. The breast shape didn't restore even after her diet improved and she was generally better, several years later. She actually took a homeoapthic combo remedy (not that I recommend those but I'm just reporting the result) and the size and firmness was restored. She's really pleased with this. Generally I feel that I do know that homeopathy is capable of healing, although I obviously only have a limited understanding. So I suppose my question of you, Ruffles is - 7 years is a very long time, too long for a rational person to stick with something they've debunked and got nothing out of (even allowing for any effects similar to those inthe animal experiements, as you're all too aware of those). What is it that keeps you with homeopathy? |

HI Jenilee -to answer your question, just what I said - for the troll effect.
![]() Unless of course, frustration was at a high point. But even so, I would not expect a post like that. Trolls are best ignored. Thanks for your results. Here is the story I promised: A 4 year old boy was brought for treatment (to Dr. Vijaykar) with a severe Mitral Valve prolapse and was told that he required immediate (open heart) surgery. He was given Phosphorous, his constitutional similimum. His complaints were breathlessness on the slightest exertion, ascending, walking, etc. IN 2 weeks he began to response and his stamina began to improve. He required only 3-4 doses over 1 year. The symptomatic improvement over that year allowed him to walk up a staircase with a load of 10 kgs (a carpenters assistant) without feeling breathless. HE did not take any other allopathic medication. After 8 years , he continues to work hard for a living - (a carpenter's assistant) without any trouble. As you can see he is a child from a very low socio-economic group to be having to work at a young age. So surgery was something they wanted to avoid as they would not be able to afford it and all the followup care. The investigations - Echo and color Doppler still show the same prolapsed Mitral valve, the heart murmur continues to to be heard. As far as his pediatrician is concerned he is still "diseased". this type of cure is a "compensated cure". Physical changes have not taken place, but the body has worked out how to compensate for the defects and function optimally. Dr. leela

Hi Gina,
Thanks for your appreciation. We used/liked your article as well for added information. Yes I intend to write some more articles on Miasms. I'd like to work on the concepts of a few more homeopaths. Not yet (lecturing) - I'm in good ol' India (chennai) for now. I doubt I'll get to the USA for another couple of years - but by then I should have armed myself with a good number of miasmatic case progressions to help with lecturing! Thanks, Dr. Leela

I wrote a long reply but for some reason it was erased due to a buggy computer...oh well. A more concise attempt below:
To answer your Q Jennilee, I guess I still hold hope. I know that homeopathy does help some. I guess I would like to be numbered among them. On top of everything else that I'm grappling with, I'm struggling with a great deal of frustration and a feeling of futility. That's why I guess I react harshly when I'm told to see another homeopath (start the process all over again) or to 'stick with it'. I know that homeopaths are good, decent folks who are motivated to help their fellow man but in my state it still rubs my nerves raw to hear such things. Unless you are in my shoes, you have absolutely no idea what I'm going through and such platitudes become very provocative. Also, I wanted to say that if you wish, you may call me a 'troll'. To me that is an ad hominem (you know, when you don't deal with the points someone brings up but rather hurl a personal insult their way). All I said was that homeopathy does itself a disservice by sweeping people like me and Jennilee under the rug, while trumpeting success stories. |

Hello Ruffles,
The onus is on you to prove that you are NOT a troll. We are not insulting you, it is a situation of "until proven guilty". Each of us have a percentage of cases that do not respond to homeopathy (so as to experience a cure), no matter what we try and we all have to humbly accept that. When each one says that one has between 70% - 90% results (each one has their own success rate) - that is exactly what we mean. There are about 10 - 20% of people who cannot be helped - depending on the competence/technique of the homeopath. The reason for this is our own incapacity. We blame our human failing (as homeopaths) and not homeopathy. Its possible also that the complications of the case do not lend themselves for homeopathic treatment. You seem to want and expect your poor (human) ND homeopath to have ALL the answers and then blame HIM or homeopathy for not curing you and instead frustrating you and wasting your money. Wasn't it your choice? (By the way, you could look at Hyoscyamus as a possible remedy for you, for this type of thinking). WE DO NOT SWEEP THIS UNDER THE RUG! Rather we offer hope to any number of people who have been diagnosed "INCURABLE" by modern medicine. My suggestion (as earlier) to you in your situation of frustration is either be willing to spend more, find a better homeopath and continue in hope like JEnillee (thanking God for small mercies), or just make a choice and don't look for help from homeopathy again. There are any number of other therapies that can help you. So there is hardly any other reason (except trolling) to bash out more this type of discussion. Meanwhile, each of us homeopaths are humbly and fully aware of the great potential of homeopathy, and but the limited capacities of our humanness. dr. leela

Ruffles, is there anything specific you'd like to ask of members? If you compare homeopathy to allopathy, you are comparing apples to oranges. Also, if you simply want 'results'-- be sure you understand what you are actually getting when you tout the results offered by some other forms of therapy - i.e. reference Gina's caution with the example of aspirin/headache=suppression.

Thank you to all & especially interesting to read about the mitral valve prolapse case.
MVP is something which also affects a significant proportion of PKD patients and for years I've had mild palpitations, on and off. Neither my GP nor consultant have been able to detect anything unusual about my heartbeat but I know there's something wrong, however slight. Interestingly, when a Chinese doctor felt my pulse she told be that there was a murmer, and I hadn't even mentioned this as I thought the possibility had been ruled out. And funnily enough phosphorus is a remedy which has shown promising results in my case. I suppose the difficulty lies in assessing whether a cure is possible or whether the aim must be for palliation or a "compensated cure". I'm not even absolutely sure I want to know the prognosis for my own case - far too scary and might limit my horizons somewhat! I also wonder whether there can be a definite prognosis - I think that, even just knowing what I've already learnt about homeopathy, I'd feel tempted to ignore the prognosis and continue, with an open mind, just to see how far homeopathy can take me. There might just be an unexpected way through. I can well understand the frustration, Ruffles. Been reduced to crying and shaking my fists at the skies on more than one occasion. But weighing up the alternatives I feel that I'm on the right course with homeopathy. Perhaps, given everything that's happened, I just feel entitled to a bit of a moan once in a while. We're all only human, after all, and it's easy to feel that, if you're paying for help, this should provide all the answers. If only it could be that easy! In my own profession I quite often get the impression that people want it all ways and really just want a simple way out, without giving things too much thought - perhaps that's sometimes what I do as a patient, client or customer too!One thing I've found with homeopathy is that although it is a very demanding process, it does seem to get easier. Hopefully that means that things are moving in the right direction.
