Default Cat With A Sore Eye

Hello, Everyone,
It has been a long, long time since I've visited this BB. It's good to see some familiar names still hanging around.
To the point--my 12 year old Calico cat has a sore left eye. It is slightly swollen, partially closed at times but not always, with a sometimes clear, sometimes yellowish discharge. This is a recurrence of the same condition of about two months ago. Then I only bathed it in warm water. At times a brown line of crust forms on the lower lid, probably from the discharge. She doesn't seem ill but she does sleep a little more than usual. No scratching, no apparent pain. What do you suggest for a remedy? Thanks.

Hello auntyb,

Euphrasia may be indicated, but if the discharge is a thick bland yellow discharge Pulsatilla is most likely the right remedy.

Euphrasia discharges are the opposite of those of Allium cepa in that here the tears are extremely acrid, but the nasal discharges are bland. Discharges, whether tears or pus, usually leave a stain.

A Pulsatilla cat is usually of a sweet disposition, but they may demand attention. They tend to be thirstless.

The eye should be bathed with a dilution 1/10 (use distilled or cooled boiled water for the dilution) of Hypercal (Hypericum and Calendula tincture), twice daily.

Or with a diluted solution of Euphrasia, 3 times daily. This solution is prepared by placing 2 ml (4-5 drops) of the mother tincture in 200 ml (half a pint approx.) of cooled boiled water or distilled water.
