Starting yesterday I got a sticking pain (like a splinter) in the left side of my throat. It continues today. I notice it occasionally when I swallow and sometimes it makes my left ear ache a little. Hot drinks seem to help. Finally went "ahhhh" in the mirror and I see a white spot where the pain is. No cough. It's nothing serious at this point, but if it's the onset of a cold or infection, I'd like to nip it the bud.

Recommendations?
