Jaison,
I am amazed to read your signature that says Bachelor of Homeopathy and Surgery. I have never heard of a University anywhere in the world that confers a Bachelor Of Homeopathy (I may be wrong and I truthfully hope I am as it would be a wonderful degree!) and to become a surgeon, one must always have completed a medical degree first which means you should have an M.D as well.
Can you explain this to me please?

Fiona

I beg to disagree Dr Leela! I think it is AMAZING and I am truly in awe of your qualifications. I wish we had something similiar here in Australia. We can get Bachelor degrees that major in alternative remedies or a Masters that specialise in a particular alternative therapy (and then a Ph.D ) but definiitely not a Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and to become a surgeon you have to have an orthodox medical degree first. Does the 'Surgery' part mean you can actually perform major surgical operations in a hospital theatre?
The so-called 'great white western bio-medical mechanistic model' is still so far behind..................
To all forum members:
Does anyone else know of a Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and/or Surgery in their country?
I was about to start a Masters of Public Health specialising in Chronic & Palliative Care this year but have changed my mind and am now about to start a Graduate Diploma in Psychology which is offered online/long distance and I can also slowly complete an Advanced Diploma of Homeopathy as well (3-4 years of study altogether).
I believe that all good homeopaths need to be good psychologists, either intuitively or through practice. Having both qualifications will enable me to utilise both skills wihtout compromising my professional standing or resort to referring patients to other professionals.

Fiona

In India B.H.M.S. people learn as much surgery skills,as an ordinary M.B.B.S. doctor. So,as per law, they are authorised to handle minor surgeries.

But,in these days of superspeciality, no patient will agree for a surgery by an ordinary M.B.B.S or B.H.M.S. They want to go to a M.S.(Master of surgery). And there are again super specialists for each area of the body part like Gastroscopic surgeons, neuro surgeons, cardiac surgeons, eye surgeons and every conceivable speciality.

So,who risks a surgery by a B.H.M.S?

I never herad of a surgery done by a B.H.M.S. I have my own doubts whether they take the surgical classes really seriously.

May be another B.H.M.S./Dr.Leela may clarify.

Murthy

Surgery at the BHMS/MBBS level is restricted to final suturing in major surguries under guidance by an MS (surgeon), any surgical procedure that can be done in the emmergency room, including putting in IV's, giving injections, dressing up or suturing wounds and lascerations following injuries, procedures like inserting Laryngo-tracheal tubes in emmergency, cleaning up/lancing abscesses and boils, etc.

BAsically, anything that constitutes what is termed as "minor surgery" in modern legal terms is permitted by an MBBS/BHMS graduate. Anything surgery beyond that requires a post Graduate degree study, to be legally permitted.

An interest in leaning anything is individual as always - the teaching is always provided.
Many Pakistani homeopaths are also BHMS trained, but India is one of the few countries to have this intensive training.

I know a family of 2 sisters, one is doing her MBBS, the other is doing her BHMS presently. Their mother is an MBBS/practicing genral practitioner. According to her, our BHMS syllabus is MUCH, MUCH more intensive and difficult. Its becasue added to the MBBS subjects, we have to study the Homeopathic subjects as well!

Default Cough

I have cured numerous cases of paroxysmic cough using Nat Sul [1m or 10m] . This is a sycotic remedy that I have also used to cure allergy - in one case of a man who was allergic to his dog!.

Smile Bhms

Halo every one
BHMS is a 5 and a half yrs course which includes learning of surgery OBG[ obstetrics & gyne] general medicine anatomy physiology biochemistry etc other than the homoeoathic subjects like materia medica , philosophy ,pharmacy and repertory. Surgery is not only doing the procedures but mainly the study of surgical cases. It helps us in diagnosing the surgical cases like appendicitis , CA stomach etc.During internship that is of 1yr we have 2 months each in OBG units & various surgical departments like general surgery ENT ophthalmology etc which includes attending the operation theatres also.Gavin Murthy if one does not take any of these subjects seriously he is not going to pass the exams which requires 50% marks minimum in each subject and the written ,viva & practical\clinical separately too.I was lucky enough to study in a college which had good hospital facility of both homoeopathic and allopathic wings[ Fr. Muller’s Mangalore [URL=http://www.fathermuller.com/

http://www.mullerian.org/]

Now I once again invite you to the topic: acute cough.
