Question BP 108/69, Is it normal or Low BP?

Hi,

this is Hari, Male aged 24 with 5ft 7inches and 125lbs. Two days back I checked my BP and it is 108/69. The man carrying the BP machine said you have low bp, I surprised. He is not in a position to give any more details abt that. I asked my uncle abt this, he said normal BP is 120/80, but as you are avoiding salt in your case 108/69 is normal. But still I have some doubts. Please if anyone have any idea try to help me in this regard. If it is Low BP let me know what I can do to bring it to normal 120 over 80.
If anyone wants further details I will provide you, but please clear this doubt.

Thanks & Regards
Hari

108/69 is a low BP, as in nice and low. If you do not have any adverse symptoms from it, like dizzy spells, blue lips or fingers, and such, it is just a good thing. As long as you are functioning normally, your BP really cannot be too low.

120/80 to 139/90 is the PRE hypertension range. So, I don't know why that man would say you need to have 120/80.

108/69 for your age, height and weight is very good.
It is not low for your age. If you are having symptoms - then get yourself checked. Otherwise, please don't let that man's words worry you.

As already mentioned, you are young and healthy, so at present, you do not really NEED to worry about salt, however, in the long run excessive salt is harmful, so you should keep the good habit of avoiding unnecessary salt. No need to be fanatic about it, though. If you are worried about health (including BP) in the long term, you should also adopt good exercise habits. This is much easier now than when you are 40 and out of shape .

Good luck!
Hans

We need salt in our diet.
But, usually we get enough salt from the foods we eat.
It's not usually necessary to add more salt when you're about to eat.
And, you certainly don't need to completely avoid salt unless you have some good reason for it.
