Exclamation Medication stops malignant brain tumours?

I found this article in today’s the Spiegel magazine:

In the therapy of malignant brain tumours scientists from Tuebingen / Germany may have made a break-through. The mobilization of the immune system stopped in mice the growth of tumours.

The cells of malignant tumours are vicious: They weaken the immune system of the patients and thereby withstand the attacks of the bodies immune system. Scientists of the University Tuebingen now found out that a small peptide molecule named TGF-beta is mostly responsible for the inhibition of the immune system in the tumour cells.
The report from the team of Mr. Uwe Weller [university clinic in Tuebingen] showed that the creation of the above molecule in tumour cells was inhibited by new molecular genetic techniques. Following that the tumours stopped their growth.
In a second step they showed that also a newly developed still experimental medicament called SD-208 stopped the further development of malignant brain tumours in mice.

The medication seems to protect the healthy cells from the tumour factor: TGF-beta.
Under the influence of the above medication it became impossible for the peptide molecule [TGF-beta] to block the immune cells of the mouse. Simultaneously the malignancy of the tumours was greatly reduced.

Weller and his team hope now, that the further development of SD-208 and similar products will create new therapy concepts for the treatment of malignant brain tumours. With the standard therapies such as operation, chemo and radiation malignant brain tumours can only be treated insufficiently.

IMO: This article confirms my opinion, that cancerous growth is always a problem of compromised immune response. From that point of view homeopathy has a very real chance as a form of treatment that restores the normal function of the different systems.
Furthermore, this article confirms the poor results of Op, chemo, and radiation in the cases of cancer of the brain. [Not to speak of the disease hastening effects.]
Otherwise this idea sounds convincing, if there were not a few aspects of this idea of medication that make me hesitant.

The application of this SD-208 may stop the activities of TGF-beta, but it does not stop the production of it.
This would mean, that the tumour patient would need to remain on this therapy till death. There is no mentioning of other[side] effects, which by themselves could shorten live and further undermine health.

So – this therapy may palliate but by its design cannot cure.

What is Spiegel Magazine? Is it like The Lancet or something similar?

Spiegel magazin is just another popular magazine that needs to sell and has nothing to do with medical science.

Dear Mosse
Your right with the magazine as such.
Yet, I had access to the Uni tuebingen and their micro-biological research facilities end of the 80' and would consider their findings noteworthy.
