Question What are Remedies??? :)

Hi,

Once again, I am posting a few new questions regarding composition of a remedy.

1- What should be the best strategy for selection of medicines for remedies such as, if, a doctor is preapring a remedy for Obbesity?

2- How much medicines in numbers or quantity a doctor can select to include them in a single remedy?

3- What is the main purpose of preparing a remedy?

4- Why not a doctor just prescribed directly to its patients any single medicine for specific desease in general as a remedy which available at Homepathic Medical Stores?

5- Is it neccessary to include atleast two or three medicines for a remedy?

6- And in last, What are remedies?

For better understanding your view points, just make it the base for Obbesity.

I have also raised a question few days ago..and have got a single answer which contains one answer in all for my qustions regarding remedy.

I will be very happy if anyone answer my questions as early as possible.

Thanks and regards,

Dhundla Chand

1- What should be the best strategy for selection of medicines for remedies such as, if, a doctor is preapring a remedy for Obbesity?

A: A remedy is selected based on a "taking", where the entire symptom profile of the patient is mapped against the Materia Medica, and the remedy that provides the best fit, especially against the so-called uncommon symptoms, is selected. This is an individual process, since no two patiens are alike.

2- How much medicines in numbers or quantity a doctor can select to include them in a single remedy?

A: It is contrary to homeopathic practice and doctrine to give more than a single remedy at a time.

3- What is the main purpose of preparing a remedy?

A: The preparation process is supposed to amplify and purify the medicinal effect of the raw substance from which the remedy is derived.

4- Why not a doctor just prescribed directly to its patients any single medicine for specific desease in general as a remedy which available at Homepathic Medical Stores?

A: With reference to question #3, a practitioner may want to prepare remedies him/herself, in order to be certain of the quality and purity of the remedy. However, most practitioners do use ready-made remedies, at least most of the time. Some prefer to create the last few potencies themselves.

5- Is it neccessary to include at least two or three medicines for a remedy?

A: Quite the contrary: Whether bought ready-made or prepared locally, remedies should always be pure and single medicines. Otherwise there is no proving information available with which to match the patient's profile.

6- And in last, What are remedies?

A: Remedies are raw substances that have been through a series of dilution/succussion steps, sometimes including trituraton. A remedy is a solution medium, water or alcohol, in which a signature of the raw substance is assumed to be imprinted in an amplified and purified form. It can be administered to the patient in liquid form or lactose tablets can be impregnated with the remedy, dried, and administered to the patient.

For better understanding your view points, just make it the base for Obbesity.

A: Homeopathic doctrine is not to treat patients on a per disease basis, but on an individualized basis. For example, two obese patients may not be treated with the same remedy, because the totality of their symptom profiles may be different.

I have also raised a question few days ago..and have got a single answer which contains one answer in all for my qustions regarding remedy.

I will be very happy if anyone answer my questions as early as possible.

Thank You very much Hans,

I really appreciate that you have taken the liberty to give answers to my questions. But unfortunately I am still thirsty, perhaps I didn't gave complete information about my thirst any ways,

I am asking another question. As a student of Homeopathy, I clearly understand that "Homeopathic doctrine is not to treat patients on a per disease basis, but on an individualized basis. For example, two obese patients may not be treated with the same remedy, because the totality of their symptom profiles may be different."

But what is the thing which make my mind puzzeled every time when ever I thought about remedies, is, When I goto a Homeo Medical Store, I saw everytime a generous numbers of Homeo Medicine in shelves, for numerious diseases. Then A person came and asked for (for Example) obbasity medicine from pharmacist. He then gave him the medicine and then charged for it. after a while, I asked the same medicine to gain some knowledge about it, I then found a composition in that specific remedy with 7 to 10 medicines in it with different potencies. I then saw at the side flap of the bottle to read the remedied symptoms, I found 6 or 7 deferent kind of causes which made sysmptoms related to Obbasity and to medicines. Point to stop here for a moment.

As we all understand that "Homeopathic doctrine is not to treat patients on a per disease basis, but on an individualized basis." I just got puzzulled when i saw that. I then asked from Pharmacist, is this medicine or remedy available for everyone who ask for it? He replied "YES" It covers everything relating to this subject matter.

I then thought, if someone has a symptom for Obbasity caused by pragnancy after the birth of child, then why there is a need to include the medicine for the Obbasity caused by over sitting, eat food and then sleep or gastric problems etc? because that specific person or women has the Obbasity problem caused by pragnancy after the birth of child, not that she even seems to feel or having other symptoms in general?

And that remedy is available generally for everyone, who has the Obbasity problem
(s)he can get it from medical stores, no discremenation between the symptoms at all.

Any one who clear my puzzulled doubts?

Thanks,

Dhundla Chand

Well, those are good questions indeed. Even on these boards, you will be able to catch many of the posters suggesting a remedy based on an allopathic diagnosis. It is evidently difficult to stay true to the scripture. As for the pharmacist in question, the answer is easy: He/she is mainly interested in selling a product.

Since I am already taking liberties, I might as well take one more: I have noticed that all homeopaths, be they kosher or even very un-kosher, will consistently claim as with one mouth that it works. So the efficiency of homeopathy seems the same no matter how you practice it .

Dear Hans

You are so right.

These combinations are making a mockery of homeopathy, and it is a shame that doctors trained in Homeopathy are also suggesting to use them.

Their action,if at all, will be purely palliating, and is nothing but allopathy in the guise of homeopathy.

The more we educate the beginners regarding this aspect, the better it will be for homeopathy.

I appreciate your effort and patience.

as long as this discussion seems to have been initiated by a skeptic, perhaps it is not too far out of line to have it continued by someone who might, at best, be described as a fledgling lay homeopath.

aaanyway, you did very well in your initial response, hans. congratulations. it was actually pleasant to read! response to the second question should have been approached with similar seriousness of purpose, though. let me try:

dhundlachand,

there is in homeopathy always something of a struggle between classical practice - single remedy, single minimum dose, wait and see (prescribed on the totality) - and "revisionist" tendencies toward using remedies as "specifics" (directed toward a discrete diagnosis) and/or in combinations (of more than one remedy at a time).

even in classical practice, one encounters the problem. for example, in acute prescribing, one may often hear it said that, for bruised pain all over after a fall, use arnica, or something of that nature. the way to understand this apparent contradiction, of a classical practitioner using a remedy as a specific, is to realize that: a) in some situations, the characteristic symptoms of a disease are so striking and so consistently present from one patient to the next, that one is confident of finding, on taking a complete case, that this remedy will very often come up as indicated for the totality; b) remembering in this context that the striking or unusual or characteristic symptoms occupy a prominent place even in standard case taking, so it is not hard to understand that in striking diseases (an acute condition, or an epidemic) the "temporary" totality will take on a characteristic profile in most patients, leading to the same remedy; c) that even so, potency will vary from one patient to the next, and there will still be patients who respond better to a different remedy: EDIT to add: in fact, it is common to find that 2-3 remedies or so come up as potential "specifics," for a particular problem situation, which underscores the fact that some conditions do lead prescribing in a particular direction, while not eliminating the necessity to individualize.

further, just as some diseases place a strong, characteristic stamp on the totality of the patient, there are some remedies that have a particularly strong effect on a particular symptom. these symptoms, for these remedies, are "keynotes," and are identified in the materia medica by italics or boldface, to indicate they are "graded" as especially significant indicators for the use of these remedies. in practice, therefore, it is often tempting to match these keynotes to patients with specific diagnoses. in fact, this may be a legitimate means to begin to identify remedies that might be useful for a particular patient, and indeed, using remedies in this fashion may bring some success ... but such a procedure is frowned upon in classical practice because it ignores individualization, is more likely than classical procedure to cause suppression, even when it does work to eliminate presenting complaints, and will not act as profoundly as the single remedy similimum.

still, such procedures are quicker than classical prescribing. and, they are rather seductive, because easier and showing some successes, which is the basis for "innovation." similarly, combination remedies are created, often with much research investigation behind them, to cover a broad range of causation and variation in type of symptom: "hit 'em with everything you've got," is the motto.

as for the vendor in the health food store: he's not a homeopath, he's a businessman, so of course he sells products that people buy. and if he is a "homeopath," but one who believes in combo remedies, then he is perfectly justified in selling the product, especially as he believes in its efficacy, if we consider it important for a merchant to believe in his product. certainly, many do, but that is hardly pertinent to our discussion ... i don't think we have a double blind procedure to determine honesty or virtue amongst vendors, physicians, or, for that matter, research scientists, who, after all, also peddle their wares and who seem more than most to speak with one mind.

We can probably consider combination, if we know like this:
http://www.simillimum.com/Thelittlel...wscholten.html

There can be various types of remedies. Energized, elemental, single molecular, bi-molecular, multiple molecular, inorganic based, organic based etc. Although, it may be possible to combines (as bio-combinations) & use, provided chemical compositions of all remedies used in combination are previously known & understood, homeopathically, BUT still specific proving of whatever we are taking should be the true justification.

Default Failure

Hey I have often failed for many differing reasons. But I always took heart from the fact that the allopaths [the honest ones] reckon that they fail on 2/3rds whilst I normally expect full or partial success in 2/3ds of cases .

Ha ha ha

Thank you all very much that you just gave me your precious time to answer the questions.

Certainely I already knew some of these things for which you have commented, I really appreciate that you did understand the nature of the question.

By the above discussions, I have learned that the moto of Homeopathy is based on Totality of symptom which differ from one patient to another. so one patient must have to consult to the one Homeopath Practioner who really understand his/her patient's symptoms and then prescribed a single remedy or compund remedy which match with the specific case vary patient to patient.

Let me ask one more question. For Example its me the case.

Symptoms:

1- Cough.
2- Flu.
3- Headachs.
4- Bronchits
5- Conggestion in Chest.
6- Conggestion feelings in Throat.
7- No Vomating.
8- Nose Fluding.
9- So much thirst but cannot drink much water.
10- Cold Sweating.

I consulted to a Homeopath, He listen the symptoms, seems very attentive, and then suggested a syrup. I then approached to the Medical Store and bought that Syrup.

I saw then the Composition of that Syrup and found these:

1- Senega

2- Drossera

3- Bryonia

4- Ipecacuanha

5- Spongia

6- Belladona

7- Cocus Cacti
8- Belladona.

What I would like to ask. Regarding my case, when:

1- Bryonia.
2- Senega.
3- Belladona.

Can releive me with efficacy from above mentioned symptoms then why I need to take additionaly:

1- Drossera

2- Ipecacuanha

3- Spongia

4- Cocus Cacti

unless I would feel the symptoms related to these medicines? I have no Whooping Cough, No achs in Joints, No vomating, No Constipation, No Asthma, No Nose Bleading etc etc..

Is this correct attitude? That Homeopath normally prescribe the same syrup to thoes patients who are engulfed with almost the same symptoms as I had, without any discremination of symptoms.

What these additional medicines will produced and make effects on me if I used them all which are combined in one Syrup?

Perhaps my questions seems rediculous but questions are questions.

If this attitude is not correct then why there are so many Homeopathic Pharma(s) working into the markete and introducing massive remedies for general public. The General public doesn't know what exactly they should have to use for thier diseases, they just see the leaflet which advertises thier products with so many advantages. The poeple think, Oh thats great, I should have to use it, it will save time from consulting the doctor as well.

I will clear the main concept which is working behind of all of these question I am asking, but first let me clear my own doubts over the stratigey of selecting the correct procedure for making correct composition.

Regards,

Dhundla Chand
