Smile Distance learning courses in homeopathy

I don't know if I've come to the right forum, but does anyone know of a worthwhile distance learning course in homeopathy?
I am recovering from chronic fatigue syndrome and need to learn at my own pace. However, I'm very aware of the number of bogus 'schools' of complementary medicine that advertise these type of courses in all sorts of disciplines. I would rather wait until I feel well enough to do a good course than get a useless 'qualification'.
I live in the UK. Any ideas?
Thanks - Jenny.

The Devon School of Homeopathy is the one to go for. It's distance learning course is excellent and a good foundation for any other course you may wish to join late when you are feeling up to it.

Most courses which devon school is offering are unrecognised. On the basis of these courses you can't practice abroad specialy in India, Bangladesh, Dubai, Srilanka and Pakistan and other countires. One of the best option is available on this site. The course is recognised.

Default The truth about The School of Homeopathy, Devon

Dear Sir,
I beg to differ about your views. The Diploma of Homeopathy from The School of Homeopathy is recognised throughout the world. The School is affiliated with The Society of Homeopaths the biggest registering body of Homeopaths in the UK. They offer distance learning for the first 2 or 3 years BUT you can only obtain the Diploma by attending the college.
http://www.homeopathyschool.com/index.html
The work is thorough and detailed and prepares you very well for practicing anywhere. The course includes Anatomy & Physiology, Pathology and Disease in addition to a sound grounding in Homeopathy, as well as enough Materia Medica to keep you busy for the rest of your life (!!)
I don't know where you got your information from, but the principal Misha Norland is a contemporary and friend of Rajan Sankaran (who you must of heard of)
I completed their Diploma in June 2001 and I know what I am talking about. As past editor of The Student Homeopath I am well aware of the colleges in the UK and the processes necessary to obtain a good qualification.
For your information, membership of The Society of Homeopaths allows reistered members to treat clients through company health insurance schemes such as HSA and Standard Life and can only be obtained if you have trained at a recognised college.
http://www.homeopathy-soh.com/

This is how well a Diploma from the school is viewed.
yours faithfully

hi english woman

When you say "They offer distance learning for the first 2 or 3 years BUT you can only obtain the Diploma by attending the college. "

In one sigh, you are saying it is distance education certificate and in the same sigh you are saying you can't get diploma without attending the school That's very funny. In the whole world, this is criteria that those who can't attend school or college but they fulfil criteria or elgibility of course. They are offered to get admission in distance learning what kind of rule your school has adopted. Do you want to say your school is getting fee through distance but presents the certificate in hand and not through post. For opening a school and issuing certificate in england one does not need any affiliation with any society or organization what so ever in england. even for starting practice in homeopathy you don't need any license from society of homeopath. you can make your own organization. or register yourself with any running organization like www.the-hma.org

i have an experience of both canada and uk.

In order to earn the Practitioner Diploma from Devon School one has to complete a 4th year of training. This can only be by attending the college in person as they do not offer the 4th Year unsupervised.

The following link has information about the International Study Programme: http://www.homeopathyschool.com/intl/intl.html
Quote:
The homeopathy distance learning course is divided into eighteen study units spread over three Years. It is the most comprehensive course available and will take you more than 2000 hours to complete: 800 hours (Units 1-7) in Year 1, 800 hours (Units 8-14) in Year 2, and 450 hours (Units 15-18) in Year 3.
[/quote]
Assessment and Certification:
Quote:
The standards for study and assessment for all parts of the program are based upon those required for registration with The Society of Homeopaths in the U.K., which have been used as model by other societies worldwide. The School awards Certificates and Diplomas at various stages as you progress through your studies; the requirements for each of these are shown below. The Foundation Certificate is normally achieved during your Year 2 study and your Advanced Diploma at the end of Year 3. Your Practitioner Diploma is awarded after one year in practice and a subsequent practice evaluation. Remember, however, that you determine the actual time that you need to take for each stage of the program and you can start, pause or stop your studies at any time.
There is unfortunately very little international acceptance of homeopathic qualifications at present, although our School Diplomas are well recognised in the homeopathic profession as evidence of a most thorough training and will give you excellent competence as a practitioner. Completion of homeopathy programs alone by non-doctors does not normally confer an official license to practice, and it is wise to review the official licensure policies of your own country/state before commencing in practice. You should therefore be aware that in most places the practice of homeopathy by non-doctors is undertaken without authority. With use of commonsense and professional and ethical application of the skills that you gain from our program, however, you may well find that this is widely ignored in most countries providing you do not claim or appear to be qualified as a doctor or draw adverse attention to yourself through bad practice.

If there is a national homeopathic society in your country, we would encourage you to join as a student member, so that you are aware of and can take part in any matters relating to homeopathic practice there. We also recommend that you join the U.K. Society of Homeopaths as a student member, as this covers aspects of worldwide homeopathic development as well as U.K. matters and provides you with Newsletters and Journals of general homeopathic interest and education; it will also keep you in touch with the latest scene regarding international practice – we can provide you with an enrolment form for this.
Quote:
Certificates Awarded
Foundation Certificate:
on completion of Units 1-10 of the homeopathy distance learning course.

Advanced Diploma, DHom(UK):
on completion of Units 11-18, and our Anatomy & Physiology Course (or an approved alternative).

Practitioner Diploma, PDHom(UK):
on completion of Advanced Diploma [YEAR 4], our Pathology & Disease Course (or an approved alternative), our Clinical Supervision and a subsequent Practice Evaluation.

Orthodox Medical Studies:
Certificates are awarded on completion of each of the Anatomy & Physiology and Pathology & Disease courses and the optional Nutrition course.
If you are still confused, you could contact the School and ask them to clarify things.

Andre Saine's distance course is outstanding. It is well taught and comprehensive. The best course I have ever taken. It will also make you a very proficient homeopath. It is also on dvd now -- making viewing it easier than ever.

dear friends
it is good to see these posts on different distance learning courses.
the comparison may help others to decide.
i welcome more such posts + comments, preferably unbiased.
has anyone got anything to say about issac golden's course and also the distance course by jeremy sherr ?

dr manish agarwala

PSlease note that the pakistan based distance course, as mentioned in the link/post above, by arshad sheikh homeopath does not appear to be genuine. i am 100% sure that it is not recognized in india. none of the distance learning / postal / online courses (based in india or outside india) are legally recognized in india. the students who possess *only* such 'degrees' are not legally eligible to practice.

please note that there are some distance courses like the ones offered by devon school / david little / andre saine's course etc - which is wonderful and may give a lot of training - but this is not legally recognised in india.

i have noticed an alarming trend in which some dubious organisations / people are taking a lot of money from people (indian / foreigners) and their university / degree etc is all fake. this is happening in the name of 'alternative medicine' / postal homoeopathic course etc.

there is no universal statement that can be made about the conditions under which homeopathy can be practiced.
the lack of official recognition of homeopathy as a method of health care by all states and provinces may be an issue in some jurisdictions.

Arizona also has a provision for Homeopathic Medical Assistants (HMA) who work in conjunction with a licensed homeopathic medical doctorsome licensed practitioners (MD, DO, DC, LAc, FNP, etc.)
Minnesota and California allow registered practitioners of alternative medicine to practice without being licensed.
