Default Causticum for Bell's Palsy?

New to this forum.....thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

My sweetie developed Bell's Palsy last night on the left side of her face.

She had it 9 years ago on the opposite side, and I treated it with Causticum, with really good results (100% recovery in 6 weeks....)

So I guess I'll use it again, even though Causticum isn't in the rubric for face, paralysis, left side.

Anybody have any ideas/comments about this? What potency would you use, and what dosage?

I'm not a homeopath, though I took the IFH course years ago.

Thanks for any and all help,
Cindy Brown, M.D.

Hi Cindy,
What we'd be looking for are possible concomittant symptoms, any exciting cause and modliaties to confrim causticum.
the side of the body is not necessarily significant, though it can be when choosing between 2 remedies.
So what you need to check for are:

What are the other symptoms accompanying paralysis on the left side of the face? DO they have any modalities of ammelioration and aggravation?
IS there any detectable cause for the onset of this episode of BElls PAlsy?
Is she chilly or hot?
IS she thirsty? Howmuch water does she want?
Does she have a tougue coating?
IS there any change in her bowel / bladder habits? Any change in her sleep pattern?
What is her present mental/emotional state? get as many details as possible.

All this should give you enough information to make an analysis to confirm Causticum or choose the more appropraite remedy.
IF this was of sudden onset, a single dose of high potency 200C and wait and watch for signs indicating another dose is what I'd do.

Hope this helps!

After the fact, I went back and did what you suggested. Turns out absolutely NOTHING about her was different, aside from the facial paralysis. Hmmm.

Well, I got panicked and went ahead and gave her the Causticum.....30X was all I had on hand and she had a couple of doses of that. Then I was able to get hold of some 30C (highest potency I could find on short notice) and she had one dose of that.

The paralysis was complete within 12 hours (usually takes 2-3 days). And within 24 hours, there was barely perceptible improvement (usually takes about a week).

So I think maybe that even treating her in a half-buttocked way with Causticum may have done the trick. Amazing.

I really do appreciate the help! Very kind of you to respond. Thanks!

Hi CIndy,
the idea is not that something has to "change" but that a picture has to be observed and present.

For example a persons answers could be:
I"ve been concerned about a relative who is quite ill in hospital. Tried to help out with meals in the last week, and have been tired as a result. I had a slight cold (URTI) going on at that time, with rawness in my throat and my voice was hoarse that would feel better if I kept sipping cold water. I've been feeling slightely colder than usual. But it all passed off in a couple of days. I'm fine just now.
Suddenly I developed this palsy on the left side.

So I'd be happy to give her CAusticum, and I wouldn't worry about the side of the paralysis!

BUT instead if she said:
I've been feeling a little brain fogged, unable to think clearly recently, probably because i've not been sleeping well. I'm restless and fidget, especially my feet. I had a skin allergy a couple of weeks back and applied some Betnovate, it passed off.
Now I'm fine, but this Bells Palsy developed yesterday on the left side.

I'd be considering ZIncum!

So really its the picture that you see that is the first guide. And then once you are fairly sure of your choice, the clinical response can be correctly evaluated.

So, hope this helps better!
