KARACHI: Over 2,000 bitten by blue bottle at beaches
KARACHI, June 8: More than 2,000 cases of blue bottle bite were treated by various agencies engaged in rescue and relief operations at various beaches - Clifton, Hawkesbay, Sandspit, Paradise point, Cape Monze, etc.
Thousands of Karachiites, especially holiday makers, frequent beaches during summer, which coincides with the breeding season of blue bottle, popularly known as jelly fish.
Blue bottle strikes along the coast sometime during May and stays till August. Picnickers, while walking along the beach or stepping into water, often fall victim to its bite.
As many as 1,900 victims of blue bottle bite were provided first aid by Edhi volunteers at Clifton beach. More than 150 such cases were reported at the Emergency Rescue Centre operated by the Fire department at Hawkesbay this Sunday while another six at the Rescue Coordination Centre, run by Pakistan Navy at Sandspit.
