Default Paralysis?

I'm hoping to get some help. We had a cat returned after 2 months of being adopted. The cat can not walk properly. Her hind end, twists at the lower to middle back when she tries to walk. Not in apparent pain, has feeling when she has to urinate or deficate. The former owner said something about a mold in her basement, but the vet could find no connection with her symptoms. She did not have a temperature upon arrival but was a little high the next day. She is willing to eat a small amount and will let me force feed her. She is quite pale, possible anemic. The vet feels she may have been starved? But we really have little idea about what went on with this cat. We found out that this owner has "done" this to 2 other cats over the years (hence the mold excuse), (the other 2 were euthanized), but due to confedentiality laws we were not informed. Anyways the vet checked her closely looking for fracture or strain or neurological usually caused by virus, but found nothing. She has good muscle mass left in her legs, and exhibits definite and deliberate movement upon exam. Becuase she was so pale and possibly infected with toxin, I gave her nux vom 30ch. It did improve her colour and circulation as well as made her more irritable (she was very placid before) although I initially attributed her mood to a heighten sence of pain? not sure. Anyways not much to do but watch and wait, keep her eating and hydrated. Would like to try her on something else, but I can't make up my mind. I believe she is a little worse in the last 24 hours, her walk is not stiff, but when you watch it, she starts out ok but will suddenly twist from the back and her legs go under. The hip and leg joints appear fine. Any ideas? THANKS!

Keep on observing the cat. If you have a repertory have a look at Manganum Aceticum that has symptoms of chronic poisoning.

Default lesion found

The vet found a lesion on her spine in the lumbar region of her back. It continues to be non-painful. She continues to lose mobility, can't even get up (lesion is probably pressing on the nerves). She has no fever, she is still interested in eating (although I need to help her with this now) and is maintaining her weight. Not sure what has caused this. The vet is confident that this condition is not trauma or poisoned induced. Really need some ideas here, please respond! Thanks!!

Injury or trauma has been ruled out in this case. Quite frankly its probably FIP or cancer or something like that.

Hi Krista,
If injury and trauma aren't responsible for the lesion, then I would start to consider some remedies for cysts or lesions instead of trauma remedies. Carcinosin is a remedy that comes to mind for lesions (brain lesions, specifically); but you have to look further into the materia medica for other options. I wondered, on reading what you've written about the case, if some form of physical abuse has caused this outcome. Do you have any ideas?

Part of the problem is that we don't know exactly what has gone on and most suspicious is the history of this previous owner who has apparently done the same to 2 other cats and suggested a mold in her basement was responsible for it. She does have other cats and it might be more likely that she might have a corona carrier in the house, however statistically 3 FIP deaths would be highly unusual. As for the mystery mold, she has children who most certainly would also be affected, and they appear fine.

This cat was examined by 2 different vets so far and they have not been able to conclude that any physical damage or abuse has occured, other than possible starvation and of course a mutilative surgery (declaw). The lesion was not palpable upon the 1st exam but was found on the second. The first vet thought the cat may have been starved, the 2nd thinks it may be FIP or cancer etc.

I am going to stick with graph for right now, although her overall condition is much the same and her appetite is a little less, she is able to sit up now on occassion and the knobby growth I was feeling on the weekend, seems smaller to me. I'm ordering some LM graph and will probably start her in a few days, providing I continue to see some improvement as I am still more than a little concerned about her appetite.
