What you would need to do is contact the Society of Homeopaths and see.

At present in England, anyone can set up in practice as a homeopath with no qualifications, so you could just start practicing straight away. There is also no requirement that you belong to any of the registering bodies either and you do not need a licence to practice.

Most qualified homeopaths do belong to either the Society of Homeopaths, The Homeopathic Medical Association or the Allicance of Registered Homeopaths.

When I trained, one of my fellow class mates was an Indian who had already gained a DHMS qualification in India. He came over and was able to register with one of the registering bodies straight away and start practicing. However, he still decided to train at our college and gain an English qualification. The tutors did a comparison and he was allowed to go straight into the second year of the course rather than starting at the first.

Hope this helps?

The associations protects your rights otherwise you can also make your own association. Recently, I got registeration of Homeopathic medical association of UK. Now I will also sit in UK on monthly basis.

<<Is there any specific qualification / criteria to start practice in UK?>>

Absolutely not as this present moment which is why it is so important for prospective patients to check the qualifications of the so called practitioner.

<<If yes, what is the eligibility for taking admission in homeopathic colleges in UK.>>
A sound education so that they can follow the course and complete the assignments and examinations.

< If I have no back ground of science even then I can take admission in homeopathic medical scientific system? Please help.>>

Yes as a comprehensive HB and P course is given by all colleges.

I personally feel that the best colleges are those affliliated to the Society of Homeopaths as the core criteria is monitored. If you go to another college the only way to become registered with the society is by examination and they would have to be Licensed and complete case studies and clinical practice.

I hope this answers your questions.

Since there are no requirements and no standardized education or approval, how would you suggest that patients check the qualifications of a practitioner? Basically, she may have a wall full of impressive diplomas, all of which she might have printed out on her own printer and had her cousin sign.

I frankly think this is a bit jungle-like.

You check the qualifications by going to the Society quoted and check that the person is indeed qualified. i.e. RSHom - my qualification means that I am Registered with the Society of Homeopaths who approve of my initial training, and they have been to my workplace and checked that I am a competent homeopath. I also had to submit cases for their approval. The new way of registration with the society also means that the candidates hae to submit an audit and a reflective piece of work.

The best plaace to start in the UK is the local Yellow pages as people who are not properly qualified don't tend to advertise in it.

Well, that is something, of course. But there is still the problem of just how that society has authority to approve you. You know what they stand for, but how is the lay-man to know?

I assume your remark about the yellow pages was a joke.

The Society of Homeoapths is the largest in UK and a full documented Code of Ethics which you maybe able to view on their website www.homeopathy-soh.org

The comment about Yellow Pages and the Homeopathy section is true for my area of the country!!

Certainly a good-looking website! However, I think you know what I am getting at. There are beautiful, professionally designed websites out there promoting practically anything you can think of (and quite a few you wouldn't want to think of).

What I am talking about is some kind of official blue stamp. If I look for a conventional doctor, I can verify that she is properly authorized by the authorities, and while this is no guarantee, it tells me that she has has a relevant education, and that she is sureveyed by the authorities to some degree.

Unless I undertake a rather exensive study, I have to take it on faith that a homeopathic practitioner is actually well qualified, no matter how pretty a website she can refer to (or whether she is in the yellow pages ).

You know that I'm a skeptic, and this is no problem for me personally (since I would not consult a homeopath anyway), but quite objectively I think it is a problem for homeopaths.
