Default Hayfever - mixed pollen remedy?

In my never ending quest to convince my husband of the benefits of homepathy I have recently purchased a mixed pollen remedy to try to treat his hayfever.

Now, I realise that he would be much better off going to a classical homeopath and receiving a remedy based on the totality of his case. However, until he actually exeriences some benefit, however minor, from a remedy, he's just not going to do this. The leap of faith is too great for him and there is some considerable resistence to seeing any kind of therapist, having already spent a great deal of time (and money) seeing a counsellor (transactional analysist), acupuncturist and osteopath and receiving little benefit in the past. The "Horizon" programme didn't help!

So...

My question. It states on the bottle "one to be sucked or chewed every 2 hours for 6 doses then 3 times daily. Stop with improvement"

I'm assuming that this means that the remedy is only to be taken once symptoms begin (which they inevitably will before too long)? So all I need to do is get to him before he's reached for his inhaler....

My hope is that he will see some improvment and then decide that it will be worth a consultation.

Does anyone have any experience of using this type of remedy? Do I need to be afraid of this kind of approach (which I am only considering as a one off, short term measure)?

I wouldn't worry about it. Over the counter combos have brought many people their first contact with homeopathy. Clients often come to me for the first time after having some success with a combo remedy.

David Reilly at Glasgow Homeopathic Hospital conducted a very promising randomised placebo-controlled trial on hayfever using mixed pollen (the sort of trial that should have made the medical sceptics think again.) I prescribe it from time to time - say, if the indicated remedies don't work or stop working - as an intercurrent. Or if there's just HF and simply nothing else at all (typical "one-sided case"). My experience is that the benefits will probably be temporary - but that may be enough to give your husband second thoughts about homeopathy. I find that, provided people actually know about homeopathy, they will come to it when they are good and ready - and not before. Given your own enthusiasm, I'm sure that day will arrive.

Reilly's trial gave 30C bd for 14 days during the hayfever season. The original pilot study for the trial used a single split dose of 30C. I use 30C either single split dose or bd for 3 days or single dose repeated at weekly intervals for 2-3 weeks. But I guess you would be at least following the trial protocol if you gave Reilly's regimen.

I presume it is Polleneze that you have bought which has 3 homeopathic Rx - Allium C, Euphrasia and I think Sabadilla in 6C potency. It will only work if one of them is the correct Rx!! He should only take it when he gets the symptoms and stop as soon as the symptoms start to get better. Restart when they return. If he has taken his 6 doses (I would say every hour not 2 hours) and nothng has changed then frankly it is not going to work!!
If it does work, even for a short time then next stop would be to a classical homeopath to determine which Rx it is thant has done the trick to be given a stronger potency of it so the effects will last longer.

Out of the hay fever season a constitutional Rx should be given after a full case has been taken. It takes about 3 years of constitutional treatment before hay fever finally goes away on average but every year it will be better than the last. The other tip I give to patients is to take a spoonful of honey which has been produced by local bees collecting local pollen every day.

Thank you for all your help. I'm feeling a lot more reassured about the process now. However, the remedy mixture I bought was 30c Allium C/euphrasia/sabadilla. I'm afraid I've not had much success with 6c remedies in my limited experience of home prescribing so I automatically chose the 30c. Is it better to try the 6c first or does it depend upon the severity of the symptoms (in hubby's case quite severe, has had eyes swollen like golf balls in the past)?

The 30C is fine but does not need to be taken as often as with a 6C. Take a dose and wait. Repeat if symptoms go and then return. If no success, repeat after a couple of hours. If he takes 3 or 4 doses and no improvement at all it probably isn't worth continuing. However if you post his actual symptoms, what makes it better or worse, modalities (time of day etc) then we may be able to prescribe for you. This is an acute condition so it is not necessary to complete a full case history at this stage.

If the eyes are a big problem get some Euphasia tincture ordered and dilute it 1 drop to 10 mls of cool boiled water in an eye bathe and use for relief as needed.

OK. Thanks. I'll wait for the symptoms to emerge and post again with the actual symptoms. Shouldn't be long. The next warm spell after this wet period will probably do it!

I wonder if my posting on the above subject in this Forum today can be of help to treat Hay Fever which is often confused with Catarrh.
I am copying it below:

I would like to share a cure that I have used for chronic cases of Catarrh with other members of this BB. I must mention here that I am not a qualified Homeopath but have been using Homeopathic Remedies, free of charge, to help anyone in distress who seeks my assistance for the last 40 years.

I used just one dose of Bacillinum 200 and in all the 14 cases that I have treated so far, some of whom have been chronic and had been virtually given up by Allopathic physicians, the overnight result was dramatic and almost miraculous in its effects. All sneezing and coryza had stopped within a few hours after the dose in the case of almost all patients and there was no relapse afterwards. I have however given a repeat dose a month after the first dose and this seems to make the cure permanent.

I would like to have the reaction of other members of this BB on using Bacillinum 200 to cure chronic Catarrh and also information on other remedies for this problem that affects many.

Default Moderation? Rules and Principles?

Well—reading this tread I am asking myself, whether this is a homeopathy forum or a free- for- all- phantasy- therapy forum.

To clarify my view, I will quote from the above some of these parts / advices etc, which contradict homeopathic principles and rules.

S. Reischmann:
I wouldn't worry about it. Over the counter combos have brought many people their first contact with homeopathy. Clients often come to me for the first time after having some success with a combo remedy.
How’s about possible suppression? Wasting time and money?

Mct1
Post irrelevant, as the remedy was not given for the individual symptoms expressed by the sufferer. Furthermore – homeopathy demands a thorough proving of the substances used by a comprehensive proving. This has not been done with mixed pollen.
This trail got nothing to do with homeopathy.

Ricky:
The 30C is fine but does not need to be taken as often as with a 6C. Take a dose and wait. Repeat if symptoms go and then return. If no success, repeat after a couple of hours.
Un-homeopathic advice.
Repeat without proper indications is Allopathy.

IMO: As a homeopath, I give no advice on the way allopathic meds are to be taken. All what I can say about the pollen mixtures is, that I have no way of predicting the effects, which makes the whole undertaking at least questionable. In my own experience, I saw these mixtures bring out latent tendencies such as Asthma, Conjunctivitis, Coryza, just to mention a few.

Hello Hans

Personally I agree with the each point you raised, above. Combination prescribing is not homeopathy.

Any comments about moderation can be continued in the Feedback Forum where I've copied the relevant part of your post - here: http://www.otherhealth.com/showthread.php?t=2802

Back on topic in this thread, please.
