Kkrista,
You'll need Hypericum for the pain. One dose of 200 should help with quick healing as well.

Then over the long term, consider LEdum, Echinacia, Apis or LAch depending on the apprearance of the wound and the temperature modality.

Also I like to advise a dose of Lyssinum 30 or 200 prophylactically, especially if the dog is a stray dog.

Keep us posted on the wound!

Is the gash really deep?

Is the swelling hot or cold? I'd select ledum if the swelling isn't hot to the touch.

Is it burning and stinging? Then I'd try the apis.

thanks chacha, I think I'll take apis, everyone is freaking about the swelling, would like to take it down if possible. The swollen skin is definitely hot to the touch, none of the wounds are deep I think it just looks really nasty because of the force of the bite causing so much swelling -woke up to my two males getting into it again, in my haste I put myself between them (Stupid!!!!). Not too worried, just anxious to make it look better so that people stop getting worked up about it. Painful though, makes you stop and think about what that poor 4 year old boy went through when he was killed by 4 rotties (my bite was a single bite from a 50lb border/lab)-could you imagine being torn apart by 4x120lb?? What was that parent thinking!!!!!

YEs Apis sounds fine!

But you'll eventually have to have Hypericum also, I think.

Dog bites are made safe by use of Ledum its subsequent complication of tetanus or any other form of septic condition. Ledum will prevent not only the subsequent inflammatory complication but will also prevent the shooting pains that naturally come when nerves are involved in the injury. Give ledum at once. Lach is also specific for dog bites check the symptoms and also Lyssin.
Cat bites acetic acid.
Also as gpm says" Herring, Arn, Relationships: Injurious after the bite of a dog or any rabid or angry animal."

Hey Krista,

How are things today?

I never would have thought Arnica for a dog bite, and I'm awfully glad to see that so many people knew about the injuriousness of that remedy for this purpose. Seems like the apis is a good way to go for now (one of those nice examples of the vital force giving you a head's up about the remedy that's really needed, after the "wrong" remedy is given!)

Hope you are better today!

Ouch! Gosh, sorry to read this Krista. Been there, done that! Really hate to be an alarmist but remembering Shoshy's posts (I think) re use of Arnica following dog bite.........

Herring, Arn, Relationships: Injurious after the bite of a dog or any rabid or angry animal.

Arnica montana, Antidoted by (12) : Am-m., camph., ip., acon., am-c., ars., chin., cic., coff., ferr., ign., seneg.

P; PAIN; Bite of dogs, as from (1) : hura
Generalities; COMPLAINTS, from; Bites of insects, snakes, dogs (26) : apis, ars., cedr., echi., grin., hyper., lach., led., acet-ac., am-c., am-caust., anthr., arn., bell., calad., camph., crot-h., gua., gymne., hippoz., hydr-ac., kali-ma., mosch., pyrog., sisy., spirae.
Extremities; FINGERS; injuries; dog bite (1) : Lyss.
General; INJURIES; bites; dog (2) : LYSS., Lach.
General; INJURIES; bites; dog, burning better by hot steam (1) : Lyss.
E; Emergency; BITES, animals and insects, from; dogs, of (28) : Bell., Lyss., apis, ars., cedr., echi., grin., hyper., lach., led., nat-m., ter., acet-ac., am-c., am-caust., anthr., arn., calad., camph., crot-h., gua., gymne., hydr-ac., kali-ma., mosch., pyrog., sisy., spirae.

Camph, Ars and Am C are in both the antidote list and in one or so rubrics. Am M though highest as antidote, doesn't appear in any of the above rubrics.

Sounds simplistic, maybe, but have had really good success in lots of bites diluting Echinacea MT (or herbal tincture may do same) in distilled water (about 1 ech to 4 water) and keeping the bite site damp at least 24 hours. I use paper towel covered with plastic wrap and duct tape....but nicer dressings are okay!

Hope a real homeopath will come back quickly and correct the above if inappropriate.

Hey gpm !!
I wonder where the Hering therapeutic indication for Arnica in this dogbite context comes from. I'd love to know the actual case details. I wonder if it was the result of a dog infected with rabies. Might be an idea to ask on other lists to see if the case can be tracked down. Would it be okay with you if I asked around?
