hello,

This a real situation.Information obtained through encounters. Seeking thoughts.

Symtomology = Male; 40's ; 'flipping in and out crying spells' Has an aversion to anything with sugar in it, yet still eats it (ABUDANTLY AT TIMES); which he feels causes a general snse of non-well-being; talks alot yet good conversationalist; weeeping comes on when talking about 'the one he loves betraying him (1 year ago)'and mostly to her; thin; lately ravenous hunger;good man yet gets very worked up Says it starts with an anxious/excited feeling in abdomen.
a real theorist (lots of ideas); I am quite aware of his cannabis use " uses it once a week in respect to GOD'; religion seeems to be his fancy; thinks he is JOHN the BAptist; Strongly opiniated; crying seems to focus upon his self-pitying .Wife sees the real him (she takes the 'blunt' of jealous judgements <justified onl;y in the past&gt Feels much of what is done to hiom is his punishment ( so he can know what it is like); expressses sorry and feels bad for things he has done in the past; is /can be very argumentative.Feeels much better if gets outside and works (physically) whidh he does not always do;crying/complaining/whining about past indiscretion of his wife and nags the literal "hell' out of her.She LOVES him dearly and is hard put to understand; When not in this mood of arguing and crying he is very vibrant real into life and very very helpful of others feelings and concerns especially his wife , whom he LOVES extremely; Not just talk REAL LY HELPS. Physically he complains not; Complaints are in the emotional area.He is very impulsive and obseeesssive about anything he chooses to get into.Harmless , takes woory upon himself and then bounces it onto wife as he says "neeed to talk it or it may drive me crazy'.

No prescrition is/was made. Just data accumulated.

What are your thoughts?

Thank you.

John

Those sound like poisoning reactions to pot.

Better get him off that before doing anything since there is no case while drug symptoms are so prominent.

Consider hyoscyamus. This person will require careful management. The cannibis complicates the situation, and may be disruptive to the remedy. So a difficult challenge all around.

Sensitivity to betrayal--
Delusion persecuted
Jealousy
Suspicious
Religious affections
Reproaches himself

David,

When repping, hyos came up powerful; but I began to see sulphur as a strong consideration.I am attempting to see what it is this man gets from the cannabis . What compensation is he getting from its use? and if he stops will he have made his own step to being well and if he doesn't stop, then can homoeopathy stimulate a response where he chooses to stop ? But is cannabis really the problem or only a symptom of the dis-eased ?

What are your thoughts?

Thank you.

John

With all due respect, forget sulphur. It fits superficially, but there are many features of the history which are too exaggerated for that very important but overused polychrest. Besides hyoscyamus, the other possibility is veratrum. I definitely agree modalities and physical symptoms will help to distinguish the remedies which seem to fit the mental/emotional picture.

Again, finding a good remedy is only a starting point in this case, and management will be the biggest challenge. I would use LM dosing, but that would also depend on whether he would take it. Either way, you'll probably have your hands full.

Did you actually take a case here, or just observe what could very well be clear symptoms of a cannabis proving?

It's important to actually take a case to understand what the drug has changed, too. You don't give much information regarding health history or family health history, and your observations also need to include some physical symptoms as well as behaviours.

I agree with David, the case will really need intensified management (and the LMs will suit this patient's need to self-treat with some drug) but I also think you have to look beyond what you're seeing by observation and actually ask questions about what this patient was like before using the cannabis, and find some good physical symptoms to round out your information.

Then tell him to go suck his toes! Either that or do what Gallavardin did for drunks and the insane: have the spouse put it in something they drink. "It" then, however, becomes a tough question since this is an iatrogenic case, which are next to impossible to figure out since the exciting cause is also the sustaining cause. I'd tell him to suck his toes if he doesn't treasure his own brain.

Exactly!

I don't usually seriously consider helping people who refuse to help themselves, but the previous symptoms would or should be privotal to knowing what the correct medicine is. Hahnemann tells us what to look into, so read that in the ORGANON.

Good question, and one every homeopath faces in every case (though not always specifically about cannabis). The disease isn't cured just because the cannabis use is stopped.

In order to be inductive with your reasoning, you can understand the cannabis use as a symptom (after all, cannabis use hasn't been life long, now, has it). At some point, this patient sought out some self-medication with this plant.

In answer to your other question, the right remedy will curtail the need for cannabis use.

Keep in mind that it is a behaviour which is adopted in response to a "stress" of some sort, which the patient tries to use as a strain against the stress. Also bear in mind that often patients will seek out what they need in terms of treatment in its crude form--you mention several drug dependencies in your description (sugar is another example besides the cannabis). Once you take the case, you may have an opportunity to weigh out whether these remedies (cannabis s., saccarum album) might actually suit the case.

But please take the case. All your observations can lead to a bunch of "deductions" about your patient...and deductive reasoning, as we know, is pretty much useless in homeopathy.
