Consider hyoscyamus. This person will require careful management. The cannibis complicates the situation, and may be disruptive to the remedy. So a difficult challenge all around.

David,
When repping, hyos came up powerful; but I began to see sulphur as a strong consideration.I am attempting to see what it is this man gets from the cannabis . What compensation is he getting from its use? and if he stops will he have made his own step to being well and if he doesn't stop, then can homoeopathy stimulate a response where he chooses to stop ? But is cannabis really the problem or only a symptom of the dis-eased ? What are your thoughts? Thank you. John |

With all due respect, forget sulphur. It fits superficially, but there are many features of the history which are too exaggerated for that very important but overused polychrest. Besides hyoscyamus, the other possibility is veratrum. I definitely agree modalities and physical symptoms will help to distinguish the remedies which seem to fit the mental/emotional picture.
Again, finding a good remedy is only a starting point in this case, and management will be the biggest challenge. I would use LM dosing, but that would also depend on whether he would take it. Either way, you'll probably have your hands full. |

Did you actually take a case here, or just observe what could very well be clear symptoms of a cannabis proving?
It's important to actually take a case to understand what the drug has changed, too. You don't give much information regarding health history or family health history, and your observations also need to include some physical symptoms as well as behaviours. I agree with David, the case will really need intensified management (and the LMs will suit this patient's need to self-treat with some drug) but I also think you have to look beyond what you're seeing by observation and actually ask questions about what this patient was like before using the cannabis, and find some good physical symptoms to round out your information.

In order to be inductive with your reasoning, you can understand the cannabis use as a symptom (after all, cannabis use hasn't been life long, now, has it). At some point, this patient sought out some self-medication with this plant. In answer to your other question, the right remedy will curtail the need for cannabis use. Keep in mind that it is a behaviour which is adopted in response to a "stress" of some sort, which the patient tries to use as a strain against the stress. Also bear in mind that often patients will seek out what they need in terms of treatment in its crude form--you mention several drug dependencies in your description (sugar is another example besides the cannabis). Once you take the case, you may have an opportunity to weigh out whether these remedies (cannabis s., saccarum album) might actually suit the case. But please take the case. All your observations can lead to a bunch of "deductions" about your patient...and deductive reasoning, as we know, is pretty much useless in homeopathy.
