Question

I’m looking for a remedy to follow Merc and have exhausted all my resources. After consulting Clarke, Miller and Phatak, I ruled out the following remedies:

Ars., Asaf., Badiaga, Bell., Calc., Calc phos., Carbo-v., China, Dulc., Guaiacum, Hepar, Iodium, Kali-i., Lachesis, Lyc., Mur-ac, Nitric acid, Phos, Puls., Rhus, Sepia, Sulphur, and Thuja.

I have also ruled out these additional remedies listed in the Boenninghausen concordances:

Aconite, Bryonia, Causticum, Cham., Conium, Graphites, Ignatia, Kali-c., Manganum, Nat-c., Nat-m., Nux, Phos-ac., Silica, Spigelia, Staph., and Veratrum.

I noticed that Hoppitt said she uses Rehman’s book, which is supposed to be the definitive source for remedy relationships. Perhaps he shows a relationship that is not listed here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

tomi, in rehman there are other remedies listed [ a long list] and many of the remedies have comments after them stating in what conditions such and such a remedy has been observed to follow merc.
if you want to post what type of condition it is that would narrow it down to something typeable - or send me a message if preferable.

there are other remedies listed in boenn's concordances as followers too - you can use the location section, if symptoms in the same location persist, or the modalities section, if symptoms persist after merc with the same modality/ies etc.

Dear Coni
Any remedy can follow Merc. Just take the case where it is now and prescribe.

carol - concordances/ relationships can be useful pointers but if nothing from amongst their number fits the symptoms, they are not set in stone [they are only clinical findings.]

in case it's of use, the remedies not checked above which are in boenn's kv in characteristic grade are:

ant-c aur clem cupr eupho mez op rheum sars spig zinc

Tomi you can directly ask this question to Dr. Abdul Rehman who is the writer of Rehman Relationship of Remedies. This is the email address of Dr. Rehman whos name is also included in Radar Software as contributor. homeo@paknet4.ptc.pk

He mostly do not reply due to hectic schedule. I met him a month ago in connection with finalization of pakistan homeopathic drug act. I handed over the photostat copy of proposed drug act to him. He is so busy now a days.

You can copy this mail and forward him for reference. All the best.

Tomi, KV is short for "Die Koerperseiten und Vervandtschaften", - The Sides of the Body and Remedy Relationships. This was Boenninghausen's last published remedy relationships list (1853).
You can find a copy of some Boenninghausen references in the back of Kent's Repertory starting from Page 1425.
The best compilation of available Boenninghausen sources that I know of for English speakers, is in George Dimitriades' book called 'The Boenninghausen Repertory, Therapeutic Pocketbook Method'. This also incorporates information from a range of later Boenninghausen works as well as from the 'Boenninghausen's Lesser Medical Writings' (edited by Gypser) but it should be noted that Dimitriades' inclusions from these sources were designed to suit the layout of his revised Therapeutic Pocketbook, so not everything is there, but it's still very good. Very expensive, and ridiculously small print, but invaluable information.

another place to find the kv is in the back of boenni's lesser writings ['drug affinities']

the problem with that list is that it lacks a grading key. comparison shows this to be the key for the blw rubrics:

large bold grade 5
italics grade 4
normal size bold grade 3
no lower grades listed.

Thanks to all who responded. Since I can't afford the Dimitriadis book right now, I may just pick up Lesser Writings. And may have to depend again on the kindness of the people here to help me out.

BTW Chris, I really enjoyed reading your description of the aboriginal dot paintings and Dreamtime on the Ian Watson thread.
