I was wondering if there is some book or article which provides the approach of a "decision tree" (it uses the IF-THEN & YES-NO logic) for prescribing remedies for acute conditions, especially for children.

For example the decision tree for Colic might look like this (remember - this is just an example):

Is child restless
|
Yes
|
Is child worse with indigestion
|
Yes
|
Is child trying to pull legs to stomach
|
Yes
|
Is child relieved by pressure/bending double
|
Yes
|
Give Colocynth.

This type of remedy selection guide will make prescription easy, even for novices.

Steven Messer had a couple of charts on chronic and acute children's ear infections. I also saw one on gastric problems. I'm not sure if he has any others. You could contact him through the NCH listing.

Dear FF,

CARA has an acute prescribing program that I think would fit the bill for you. It's called Akiva and asks the kinds of questions you described above. I believe their web site is:
Miccant.com

The site www.abchomeopathy.com works in the same pattern. Ask for the remedies for one complain and the site interactive system will ask you few related questions about the same complain I know you have already visited the site many times but you did not observe this point.

Hello Double F

When I was visiting Uk. I purchased this book "Homeopathic Treatment Systematized and Simplified by A.C Dutta. This book is also written in the same pattern. The book is highly useful for those who have little ground in homeopathic philosophy and materia medica.

Dear M.A

This is not as simple as you are describing. For reading purpose the example presented is good but in practical you will not find in the same pattern, if other symptoms are too existing.

Give Colocynth.
Under the heading of Diarrhoea at page no 86 the writer presented an example related to colic types. See if you find one more symptom from below then the case will not be as simple as you are telling us.

colic Painful

Worse before everystool (Dic),
Distended Stomach Worse by Touch (Cl.c)
Burning in anus (Irs)
Atony in stool (Hep)
Worse in the region of liver (Nt.s)

Dear Secret Agent

The decision tree basically follows the Yes & No gridwork. I was unable to show the No side due to space constraint but it would look something like this:

Colic pain
|
Yes
|
Pulls legs up - No - Better by Stretching
| |
Yes Yes
| |
Give Clocynth Give Dios

Aside from this, from your threads I have gathered that you have experience in homeopathy, what would you consider the best approach to be followed if someone were to learn homeopathy from clean slate. For example, you can elaborate by telling the following to be done in sequence:

1. Learn the basics of anatomy, physiology, pathology, psychology
2. Read Organon
3. Read Kent's lectures
4. Read Vithoulkas's xxx book
5. Read Sankaran's xxx book
6. Take the xxx certification exam
7. Join xxx clinic or hospital as intern for a year
8. Now you are ready to be a world class homeopath

This is something that I would appreciate everyone's feedback on. At the moment I am gathering all the info I can about various thoughts and approaches that newcomers & practicing homeopaths have regarding learning of homeopathy. I see mediocre homeopaths here and there having a success rate of no more than 50%. What is that which makes some homeopaths stand out, what is the that which separates the grain from the chaff. What do the masters know and do which makes them the masters. What is their secret. If its not tangible then my fallback position is still the same that every homeopath has his own way of prescribing and giving weightage to rubrics, there is no structured approach. Structured and systematic approach yields same results, time after time, is independent of personal influences.

Here are some more books by that author, Dutta, I wonder if they are using the same approach:
1. Homoeopathic Treatment Systematised & Simplified
2. Homoeopathy in the Light of Modern Science
3. Homoeo. Practitioner's Guide to Diseases
4. Homoeo. Snap Shot Prescriber
5. Homoeopathy Light Isotopic Treatment
6. Homoeopathy A Systematic of Case Records
Barb, I will wait for your feedback about that book. Thanks.

Dear FF,

Go to this web site and order the Acute Prescribing seminar on audio tape:

http://alchemilla.com/home.htm

We all have to learn acute prescribing; this is the highest level of homeopathy--acute and emergency prescribing; nothing could be more important. Just remember your daughter after her vaccination--Hepar and Hypericum, what could have been more essential, what's more important than ending suffering? So, this is clearly where to start.
