Hi - Dempster (my cat) has been in a fight (he does this all the time). He's a mellow soul but won't have other cats treading in his territory. He must be on his 9th life about now.

He's obviously been in a nasty fight this time. Battle worn big time. He's got a hole in his left cheek -- gaping wide open -- and you can see the bone. It's oozing pus and some blood (it alternates between oozing blood and pus basically). I noticed a foul smell coming from it. Not sure what to give him.

The only thing that has changed with him since this injury is that he's lost a lot of weight. I think it may have hurt to chew(?). However, when we put food down - he IS eating! So, none of this makes sense.

Basically it's a hole. It's open. It's itching coz I can see him scratching it, which just knocks it open again.

Any ideas would be appreciated. And before a few of you decide to ignore this post - remember this is a cat that needs help. I'm hoping you'll set aside your biases towards me and just help! Please.

I'm not sure when this happened. I was away and only noticed it one night when he curled up in my lap and rubbed his itchy cheek up against me (blegh it was nasty). I cleaned it every day since - and was told to leave it. But now he's losing weight (he was BEEFY before and now he's looking like a more normal weight but for him it's skinny). I'm really worried about him and think he could use a boost from a remedy.

Sounds like it might fit into puncture wounds.

Meaning what - Ledum? Maybe -- I'm not sure; that's why I asked for help here.

It looks like he was either bitten or scratched/torn into; like the skin was ripped open. It's deep, gaping and it smells bad. He's losing weight. It itches. There are so many remedies for this - and it's hard to narrow it down.

Got a remedy suggestion?

Smells bad could be Mercury. If you think he is getting septacemia think of Pyrogen but overall my suggestion would be Gunpowder which is an amazing remedy for septic wounds.

P.S. Should I just leave it (topically speaking) other than cleaning it? The vet (a friend) said it's better to leave it (i.e. not bandage it up) - but he keeps scratching it every time a pus-y scab forms on it. Then it bleeds again.

When it starts to crust over with pus - the pus is thick, oozy, smelly (it's BAD - you can smell him 3 ft away from you). It nevers dries enough to be crusty, I mean. It's still wet. The colour is opaque-yellowy-greeny-grayish. Blegh, it makes me gag thinking about it.

Loose bandage so the air can get to it and he can't scratch and get some Gunpowder 6 or 30.
