Homeopathy fails in asthma study

HOMEOPATHIC treatment has no effect on childhood asthma, a disease that is attaining near-epidemic proportions in the developed world, according to a new study.

Doctors in soutwestern England enrolled 93 children, aged five to 15 years, who used inhalers and other conventional medication to ease their asthma, which was rated mild to moderate.

In addition to this treatment, the volunteers then saw a trained homeopath, who saw each child at last six times during the next year.

The children were given either homeopathic remedies or a harmless lookalike and neither the children nor the homeopaths knew who received which remedy.

After 12 months, the children and their parents filled in a questionnaire about their quality of life, with questions on frequency of symptoms and days off school, as well as more technical data such as adverse reactions and airflow from the lungs.

Dear mr.me,

If it is not clear whether the children received well-indicated remedies, how can one makes such conclusions?

Feedback from patients is essential for homeoapthic treatment, but if the homeopaths did not know who received what, they would not be able to decide on further treatment strategy - and failure is only natural.

Did the people involved know enough of homeopathy?

Iam practising for the last 18 years.The number of asthma ,including childhood that I treated may be in thousands.Homoeopathy can cure it in acute stage as well as chronic state in most efficient manner.

A doctor friend my went to children's hospital to treat one small patient of a serious renal problem. It did the history to her, one saw her and gave to her Pulsatilla. The girl reacted spectacularly, the internal doctors did not believe it so they called my friend to speak with him on the treatment that had applied the girl to him. My friend homeopath explained to them a bit on the homeopathy and said to them that had given him Pulsatilla. On the following day, the doctors gave Pulsatilla to all the children with renal problems. The children, naturally did not react. This series of experiments la majority of the times are not valid, because they divide from allopathic concepts, without having in one counts the individuality and his results are used to discredit to the homeopathy.

Proponents say homoeopathy works; allopathy suppresses, etc.
Opponents say, homoeopathy does not work; there are just claims but no substantial evidence?

Who would decide, who is right or wrong? In fact, these are two extreme positions. The truth may be somewhere between them.

How stressful is it to be the mother of an asthmatic child? Caution has to be taken in matters of diet, clothing and other activities of the child. A little negligence can bring back the frightening asthmatic attack, disturbing the whole family. As I sit to compare the present state of my daughter with that existing six months or so back, I find a lot of change for better. You can imagine my sense of relief.

In May 2002, when we started the homoeopathic treatment, attacks of asthma were quite frequent. The attacks usually started with a cold characterized by dripping nose with sneezing in the morning, wheezing sound and fits of dry fatiguing cough which at times ended in vomiting with a temperature ranging between 102°F and 103°F. Accompanying all this was a loss of appetite to be followed by appearance of blue circles under the eyes and a sunken look of the face. This would naturally make me rush to seek medical help to end up receiving the usual stuff i.e. a fever lowering mixture, a cough suppressant and Ventoline syrup.

I was fed-up with the situation and just did not know, how to save my daughter from the frightening fits of asthma. I had heard about the efficacy of homeopathy in such lingering cases but finding a good homoeopath is really a problem in Pakistan. My husband and I decided to visit Arambagh where several homoeopathic clinics are situated. After taking a round of the area and a critical view of the clinics, we decided to place our daughter under the treatment of Dr. Ahmad Fakir Muhammad and the decision by the grace of Allah proved to be right. The improvement has been slow but steady. The frightening asthmatic fits seem now to be the story of the past. She does get fits of cough and runny nose but they no more lead to asthma. The frequency of such episodes has also considerably decreased. The body temperature which used to shot up to 102°F-103°F, now rarely goes beyond 100°F during the infrequent episodes.

Homoeopathy is no doubt a great solace and blessing for the asthmatic children and their family.

My daughter cured of asthma!
Mr. Adeebullah, a civil engineer, relates how his daughter was relieved of asthma.

My daughter Saadia, now 4 years old, weighed just 4 lbs at birth. She had a number of problems. The most troublesome was the difficulty of breathing – the so-called childhood asthma. With passage of time, the problem got from bad to worse and I kept on running from one doctor to another.

I live in Karachi, work in Hub (Baluchistan) and my permanent residence is in Faisalabad. My family moves to Faisalabad on Eidul Fitre every year for two weeks or more. I had noted that in Faisalabad, she remained well but as soon as she returned to Karachi, the problem reappeared.

A colleague of mine, whose son had remained under the treatment of homoeopathic Dr. Ahmad Fakir Muhammad, advised me to consult him. I followed his advice.

The treatment continued for about 9½ months. There were occasional relapses and a few testing moments during this period but the improvement was steady. The frequent attacks of difficult breathing with almost non-stop cough became less and less frequent and my daughter continued to improve month after month.

As I write these lines, we are halfway through the winter, a time when asthma gets worse (she was so worse last winter), but by the grace of Allah, the Exalted, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful, Saadia has not suffered any serious attack this winter and not even a minor attack during the past more than two months.

Currently, she is taking no medicine, and according to Dr. Fakir, may not need any in future too for this complaint. However, he has strictly advised to observe dietary discretion till she turns 5. May her recovery be permanent. Amen!

The children in the study were given both allopathic means of control on top of homeopathic remedies? What renown hoemeopaths worked the cases? (maybe their mom's picked remedies out of a "self-help" book?)

There is a TON, literally, of good science which verifies homeopathic efficacy.

There is also a ton of very poor "science" which attempts to show how useless homeopathy is by using the remedies as if they were allopathic drugs.

Well, if we used allopathic drugs incorrectly, they would never work (Heck, they hardly work when used correctly). The trick is to know the difference between a valid study, with solid principles and practices controlled as variables; and a study which attempts to just trick people into believing homeopathy doesn't work by misusing the principles and the method and the remedies.

Truth is, homeopathy works very well. It is the only effective cure for asthma. When people who are cured of asthma or other "incurable" diseases by homeopathy, they tell others, and so on, and so on. That's why homeopathy is so widely used, no matter what shabby "science" tries to do to its reputation.

Wouldn't it be nice to see an actual, good scientific study of homeopathy's efficacy printed here--instead of one which looks like it was reproduced here to just stir up crap?
