i woke up last sunday morning unable to swallow without great pain. first the right side then later the left and then both. today is thursday and condition is no better. tonsils are enlarged and red, (no pus) glands on my neck are swollen on both sides but slightly more protruding on the right. urge to bring up (though painful) light yellowy catarhh. had a light, 1º fever on and off. every night i am waking up drenched in sweat which makes me feel cold. don't feel much like water but want to drink juice and desire to eat ice cream(which i don't normally like especially).
i strated initially with gelsemium but thought better of it and yesterday i started with belladonna 9ch but i am stopping now as i don't think it is helping and i don't know what i'm doing. took some paracetomal yesterday- it was such a relief! but i have been trying to avoid painkillers as i am still breatfeeding minimally (feels like there's nothing there).
been sleeping 80% of the time. but never feel any better.headache started yesterday and is still there.
foiund a bit of relief swallowing bread as opposed to just swallowing, or swallowing water.
feeling very pathetic and weepy and like its never going to go away.
any help, most appreciated.

There is lot of Mercurius here. The night <,desire cold drinks, the glands enlarged, night sweat ,fever etc.
Instead of Gels if you take Bell in the intial stage it would have been gone.
Lac can will continue change sides and is characteristic.

thank you both for your replies.
last night-no big cold sweat like before, but i felt that the pain was going into my right ear. the throat pain is on both sides but a bit worse on the right. the threat of ear ache gone by morning but the pain on swallowing still there. i think i feel better after sleep.
definitely thirstier than usual, but i'm usually not a very thirsty person.my throat feels like i've been walking through a sand storm for weeks and its parched and rough and grazed or even burnt at the back.
i think from what you say i could try Lac can - what dosage should i take??
is it a fever blister? i occasionally get them when i'm run down or stressed. idid sit in the sun the first day i felkt bad which can bring the sores out.
this illness reminds me of two things- 1stly that for about 4 months prior to january, i had been feeling lousy, every morning a slight sore throat which i felt had to do with breast feeding in the night and not drinking enough water...but perhaps not.and generally tired, to do with having to get up every few hours because my little girl wakes up wanting breast milk.
2ndly, this constant urge to bring up catarhh/mucous that i have now all day is very similar to the condition that i have had now for as long as i can remember- at least 10 years- every morning i have to bring up mucous and spit it out. i've never known what it was or what to do about it, could it be related?

Zanna,

I'm inclined to think of Lac Caninum because of the movement from right to left and back again, and because of the fever blister; I didn't see Lycopodium in the rubric
"Mouth, fever blisters, lips" and normally, we'd first think of Lyc. when a sore throat starts on the right and moves to the left, but it doesn't have the fever blister; Lac Caninum does and it is known for symptoms changing sides, especially if they change sides, and then go back.

Apis is another possibility. It's got the fever blister and the right to left movement. If it's Apis, you'd want only cold drinks. The tonsils would be red and swollen. There'd be a stinging pain on swallowing. The uvula would be swollen.

If it's Lac Caninum, the pain on swallowing would go to the ears. Perspiring through the night.
Throat sensitive to touch. Increased thirst.
Apis isn't very thirsty. Lac caninum is worse after sleep.

The waking drenched in sweat goes more for Lac Caninum, I think I'll leave my vote there.

Zanna,

With the desire for cold drinks and the pain extending to the right ear on swallowing, it's starting to sound now like Phytolacca--which also has dryness and burning in the throat. The worse from sleep and waking drenched in sweat of Lac Can
seems to have diminished, so I'm feeling now it may not be indicated as well as Phytolacca.

Hope this helps,
Snoopy

A 30C three or 4 times a day for three days, BUT,
stop if there's a striking improvement, but resume if the improvement slows down;
stop if you get worse.
Continue as long as the improvement is incremental, cut back as the improvement becomes more substantial.

The best method of dosing is in water--cup or bottle--with shaking or stirring before each dose.
