Is there any help in such a case? I had recommended formica rufa as a palliative but it didn't help much. I think it is too late for a deep-acting remedy like phos or sil.
Symptoms are (besides normal symptoms of the disease: falls down often, difficult to get up etc) loss of hair does not want to have his hair brushed desire for movement despite of pain hates bathing eats snow and earth restless at night - changes place likes to lie in the sun flatulence bad odour former diseases: balanitis, conjunctivitis Former remedies bryonia, dulcamara, rhus. He got formica d12 2times, each time a short aggravation followed by a short amelioration, no reaction after the 3rd dose. He is livelier and "talks" a lot, and loses less hair , the owner says Personally: I have not much hope. I 'd rather say it is a torture for the poor dog. Luzie |

Hi,
The key for colocynthis in hip pain would be if the pain aggs when rotating the leg inward. Other remedies to consider might be: arn, bell (rapid onset, pain more right than left), bry (refuse to budge), calc (limbs may feel cold/damp, flabby type), calc phos (thin/spindly), colch (touch may cause cry of pain, may have stomach distress), puls (worse with heat), ruta, sabina or sil. Rhus (chilly, restless) walks/moves out of pain (difficulty rising), ruta rises easier but pain agg by movement. A friend of a friend wrote me a while back regarding his dog with hip dysplasia. They saw really good results, very quickly, with low potency Ruta (6X) repeated 3 x daily (this was dry dosing because they had no idea how to use liquid potencies, had never heard of homeopathy before), adjusting that dose as needed and only using it for one week as a test. They also used a 6X tissue salt (not in potency) daily, not at the same time. They were ecstatic with the changes, delighted their pal could once again do the things she had always done before. I then sent them to a real homeopath to continue treatment and have not heard back. Hoppitt's suggestion sounds on target (as may have been Rhus) but I would have no idea at what potency or freqency, both of which I think are very important considerations. The right remedy in the wrong potency/frequency may not yield the desired results, making one feel it was the wrong remedy. Much good luck to your friend's friend. (Keep in mind, I am neither a homeopath nor a vet and have very little knowledge.....just sending my thoughts along.)

For resources:
In your country the best book would that by H.G. Wolff on Homoeopathic Treatment of dogs. It is by the largest homoeo-medical publisher. Also on amazon, also repeated English translations/editions. Good reviews by customers and in homoeo-medical journals. In English: Besides that, the Book by Don Hamilton has also a chapter on the disease ( I would regard it as the ideal intro reading for vet hom. in this language ). In your country there should be no lack of well-qualified homoeopaths I should think. Also homoeo-doctors "for humans" sometimes treat animals ( not forbidden by law; it varies throughout the continent ). If there is a longer history of ailments, then a professional may see connections, which a self-prescriber is not aware of ( otherwise, why would the former need a lengthy training ?). I should think it worth the investment of time and money. Kind Regards, Panthera |
