Your thoughts please....

Bladder seems to be continually open and will leak small to large amounts of urine.
Worse lying down, then sitting (better for movement, standing, walking etc. -will not leak)
Worse before urination (as I assume bladder is full and subsequently better afterward when bladder is reletively empty). Urine is not scanty, it is copious & pale with normal to strong odor (no infection). Urination full sometimes forked stream (sometimes gushing), may have problem projecting, no pain. Stress, anxiety, grief, fear etc will make it worse.

Other symptoms include: ravenous appetite for everything and anything, BM dry, difficult sometimes constipated, vomitting undigestable stuff (not food; will eat anything), flatulance, tendancy to carry excess weight around the middle (large abdomin); occassional joint pain usually of the back legs (probably due to excess weight); restless sleeper (lots of dreams with movement); loves the cold and wind (heat uncomfortable); thirst normal, somewhat clingy can be jealous but never has a temper, usually happy, easy going. Diet is controlled but has little effect on weightloss or weightgain.

Puls did not work
Bell worked a bit but did not last (palliated?)

Looking at rhus-t, hyco, Ign, calc c

Thanks Sherhan, I did look at lyc but wasn't sure as I feel quite certain this is a problem with the mechanisim of the bladder (nerves?). I will give it a closer look tonight along with any other suggestions.

Christiaan is an unknown quantity at this point

Urinary system, divided/forked stream: Anag, Arg nit, Can s, Cantharis, Formica rufa
I will look first at cantharis, which in my experience nearly always helps with incontinence.
Biochemically speaking Calc fluor (decreased bladder strength) and Kali phos (nervous system) could be considered.
Rule out possibility of internal parasites
Good luck !

Hi Krista,

May I ask if this is a non-human?! I read once that animals can develop gonorrhea symptoms (including a kind of rheumatism) from vaccinations.

Knerr: Bladder; URINATION; stream; divided, in gonorrhoea (1) : THUJ. (Thuj has canine hunger without thirst, constipation/dry/difficult stool)

From the Complete:
BLADDER; URINATION; forked stream (15) : Merc-c., Thuj., cann-s., canth., caust., merc., rhus-t., anac., anag., arg-n., chim., clem., kreos., petr., prun.

Hep S also has canine hunger, constipation/difficult stool and incontinence.

I remember reading somewhere that Con might be of consideration if there is some lower extremity weakness with incontinence but it may have more connection to females....can't remember, sorry.

Thanks for all the replies, unfortunately I'm as confused as ever!

GPM: yes this is a "non-human", this is Sara, she is mostly Husky with just enough Shep thrown in to make her tolerable. Actually she is an absolutely perfect pet except for this little problem. I've had her for over 2 years now and her problem has been off and on throughout. She spends quite a bit of time outside, but she has to be around 7 years and stays in more these days. Around x-mas the urinary leakage became worse and I've been doing double duty making sure she goes out a lot and stays on the lanolium when in the house. She was vaccinated when abandoned at the spca 2 years ago (probably bordatella, and parvo combi; no rabies). ALthough a spay scar is not evident, she has never gone through a heat so it is assumed that she is spayed.

I will take your suggestions home and hit the books again tonight. Thanks

Well I studied this case again last night, looking into all the suggestions. I'm still searching. The is no pain or inflamation, urinalysis indicates normal urine. The fact that she leaks more when the bladder is full and when pressure is on the bladder leads me to believe that the problem lies with the muscles/nerves of the bladder sphincter. I assume that I am right in considering the ills of digestion as the next most important set of symptoms and lastly the joint pain. Can anyone suggest another way of looking at this case that might lead to a clearer path? Perhaps I'm too focuses on the urination and I should be looking a little broader? The "odd" symptoms of ravenous appetite for anything and the permenently distended/gassy abdomin, should they be given more weight?

Hi Krista,

If you think the bladder weakness might be a disturbance of function, without pathology and since you did get some results with Bell, have you thought about Calc? I think it's a chronic for Bell. Calc has the craving for indigestible things as well as ravenous, abdominal distention and obstinate constipation. Just a thought.

Interesting developement, looking for some guidence:

Calc c LM1 given; after 3rd dose noticed urine has become very odorous. Ammonnia, smallest drops produce strong smell, (overwhelming when the dog is near)urine also appears darker sometimes. When reped, Nit ac stands out very clearly to cover many of her symptoms.(thirst esp at night, flatulance, spongy teeth, vomit, hip pain, bad coat, small difficult stool, urine smelling of ammonnia, dark, copious etc)(however the overall picture of weakness and stumbling, anger etc is not at all present).

I'm not clear if its OK to follow calc c?

Is this change a product of the calc and should the calc be stopped and the case allowed to settle?

** there has been no change in the incontinance under calc c.
