Interesting question. I know that placebo can cause an effect in a patient. I have seen patients aggravate under a placebo (although they do not cure afterwards).

A patient may react to the alcohol or milk sugar I suppose.

I also know that a patient can improve or worsen after merely talking about their problems.

Blueman, is there a specific situation you wanted to ask about?

Sir DavidJK,

It became astonishing new joke today When saboor provided a link. I visited the link and found very untoward info regarding homeopathy. I had spontaneous overflow of hatered against the person who is against naturally logical and scientific mode of treatment - homeopathy. I picked up a point from that page which shows that homeopathy has not only a placebo effect but also with side effect. I pasted this link to satiate my curiosty but you totally agreed with the topic. What is this non-sense and stupidity

http://www.pakdoctors.info/alternati...homeopathy.htm

Please don't mind it. After reading your post I laughed a lot. We don't need allopathic doctors to call bad names to homeopathy when we have in our lines duffers among us.

Surely, if this BB is for homeopaths and we aim to be 'unprejudiced observers' we should endeavour to be openminded. Even conventional scientific tests find that placebos produce effects on the people that take them.

As homeopaths we know that a person's mental state can produce physical symptoms - we see this all the time. A change in the person's mental state can produce a change in physical symptoms. This could be dramatic and look like an aggravation.

What can change the mental state of the patient?
Maybe talking to someone about their illness and feeling that they have been understood. Maybe receiving a medicine that they believe to be really powerful. Lots of things can change the patient's mental state and have physical results.

We are dealing with real people with changing situations. This makes homeopathy challenging and interesting.

Happy New Year
Therese

Davidjk,

I need clarifacation, Can placebo cause side effect in the patient (an interesting upload of of question by someone). I think, aggrevation in the symptom after the administeration of placebo is actually the continuation of disease and not placebo side effects.
