In india, the categories of doctors are different. Some or diploma holder, some have two to three year course and some are bhms. All of them are registered under indian homeopathic and ayurvedica act.
When act was passed some non qualifying practitioners were given license without qualifying any degree or diploma. The reason was, they were already doing practice of homeopathy. But were given category B. Now today all practitionrs are category A. But qualification differece is there. I am interested to know the value of diploma, degree and online or correspodance course. There status in homeopathy. From where we can get admission in homeopathy through correspondance or online. Or if we want to study regular course. Which institutions have good reputations.

Hello Dr. Meena,
I assume you are in India? That's a really broad question there about reputed insitutiona as I think each state or City will have at least one good reputed homeopathic insitution. DHMS (diploma) BHMS (degree) LCEH (Licentiate) These are the most common qualifications available today. I don't know about the authenticity of others. THere isn't much difference between them except probably in the number of years of study and the clinical hours put in. Since the BHMS is 4 and a half years, it is 1 year of study and clinical learning hours of practice and experience more. BUt all our professor's were either LCEH or DHMS when I studied and all of them were very competent in their medical, homeopathic as well as clinical knowledge. I don't think a correspondence course allows you proper clinical exposure, so its always best to do a regular course, especially at the beginning. Hope this answers your question somewhat. regards, doctorleela

If you could spare time then you must engage yourself in regular study as regular candidate. Homeopathy is unique subject which have depth of covering correspondance courses too. You can also join in some online course.
Go to www.google.com and type "Online homeopathic courses" in search box. You may find some suitable sites.

All over India now DHMS(4 and ahalf),BHMS(five and half years),and MD (three years)are the regular courseS,recoganized by central council and universities.DHMS is now stopped I think.
you will get admission only after qualifying enterance examination .To be eligible for enterance you should have 50 percent mark in +2science.(predegree).MD is three year course after passing BHMS. corresspondance course has no value here and not recoganized. Disagreeing with Dr Salim's view.correspondance course cannot cover the subjects studied by instituitionally qualified drs. They are studying the same syllubus of medical subjects like Anatomy,Physiology,Practice of Medicine, forensic, hygeine, pathology, gynac, obstre,m icrobiol,etc,etc...as allopathic instituition. The homoeopathic physician should have the knowledge of diseases, knowledge of medicines and how to apply them.

Will it be in Engish in Kerala - I suppose it would be. I was just wondering about the outside chance of things being in Malayalam and then I'd be stumped!
I doubt it has started in Mumbai, but I could find out. There was a rumour at one time that the Rajasthan University (Jaipur to be more precise) was ready to start the MD. That was more than 10 years back. MAybe Dr. B. Knows something more? So how does on get more details about the entrance examination? And the MD is in either one of the 3 subjects, not all 3 is it? Thanks, doctorleela [ 13. August 2002, 17:40: Message edited by: doctorleela ]

Rajasthan university did start the MD course about 8 yrs back. And as far as I know, it was the first in the world. And now there are many colleges offering MD in Homeopathy. You can do post-graduation in Materia Medica, Philosophy or Repertory.
