I have a client with PCOS. What dose of Evening Primrose oil are you on? I know it is in your thread but that would be like searching for a needle in a haystack. Thanks barb

Dear Medical Officer,
I have no doubt that there is either no homeopath in the area or the client is poor or refuses to see anyone else. I've known Barb for years and she has often bemoaned the lack of homeopaths in her area, but, this is common in the United States; and where there are homeopaths, I'm often astounded by their lack of ability. This client is probably lucky to have found Barb. Snoopy |

Thanks guys. She is going to be on the diet recommended by Dr Mercola which is similar to the "Bettina diet". Now, in my education it is recommended that one take a teaspoon of EFA's per 50 pounds of weight, however this seems high to me and I was hoping to see what dosage Bettina was on.

Dear Barb,
I feel honored that you address a question to me, Thank you. My Evening Primrose Oil Capsules contain 500 mg cold pressed Evening Primrose Oil, which again contains 10% Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA), the ingredient that is supposed to help with the PCOS-Condition. I started by taking six capsules distributed over the day, two in the mornings, two at lunch and two after dinner. Some time later someone stated that Evening Primrose Oil is best absorbed and used by the body if taken before bedtime and this is what I did then for a long time (till summer this year) (three capsules before going to bed). In Summer I stopped all supplements, because I read anything that one does very regularly may not be beneficial to health in the long run. And a few weeks ago I started taking Evening Primrose Oil again in the evenings but less regularly, either three or four capsules about three to four times a week as to not do it too regularly. Best wishes for your client. Does she take Chromium Picolinate and/or Vanadylsulfate? If yes, which doses does she take? Bettina |

You're welcome.
Barb, Is this the overweight patient? I've found that for people trying to lose weight, adding digestive enzymes to the diet speeds things along noticably! I've seen a big difference prior to and after enzymes. Snoopy |

Yes Snoopy - it's the case you are familiar with. I will look into the enzyme info.
And Bettina, your help is very much appreciated. Happy Holidays to you and yours.

Hi Bettina!
Gee, I thought everyone knew about enzymes, but I guess not. Well, the idea is that when we cook food, the heat destroys the enzymes that's in all raw food, which enables that food to be digested. Raw food, essentially, is biodegradable, it takes care of itself. But we're a culture of stoves. Consequently, all of our food is a stress to us, it comes without enzymes, and we have to "borrow" enzymes, which are dedicated to other parts of our body, to digest our food. This is bad because we really can't afford to lose those enzymes, they make chemical reactions possible, like the spark plugs in our cars. So, go to the health food store, and in the vitamin section buy Digestive Enzymes--usually capsules, 2 with each cooked meal--and now your food can be digested, and like I said, I've seen weight loss speed up with this addition. Good luck, Snoopy |
