Symptoms:

* excessive and frothy drool
* head hangs down
* tongue yellow, like burnt leather in the middle
* red, shiny ulcers on either side if the tip
of the tongue
* red, shiny and bleeding (when mouth is cleaned ulcers on the bottom lip where the canine teeth rest
* back of the mouth (roof to throat)red spoted with what looks like tiny little ulcers waiting to happen; burning
* mucous, extremely foul smelling; collecting at the back of the throat
* thick, whitish-yellow discharge from eyes, collecting in the inner corners
* clear, sticky nasal discharge with tendency to crust
* no appetite
* no thirst
* small, burnt bowel movement 2 days ago; urine normal
* temperment: clingy and afraid and very stressed out
* better for cleaning and attention

First started on Puls 30c, plussed dose in 24 hours -initially some relief and then ulcers appeared and no longer affected discharge
Have been giving fluid replacement and force feeding

Puls. was a good choice.

I came up with:
Lyc., Phos, Apis and Hyos.

Snoopy,
Thanks for posting. The cat seems to be doing much better, although she is so pathetic looking with her head hanging down and drooling... poor thing -she hasn't had an easy time of it, she has been most anxious since her owners abandoned her!

If she's gotten better, then maybe Puls. really was the right remedy. Maybe it has to be repeated or just watched to see if improvement will continue.

Of course the drooling makes one think of Mercury.

One time my daughter had a virus and was drooling with offensive breath and of course I gave Merc. which only helped briefly. I took her to our dr. who knows some homeopathy and the dr. said,
"Pyrogen!" and she (the dr.) was right! Turned out my daughter was drooling only because she couldn't swallow! Pyrogen also has offensiveness.
It turned out to have been strep throat. It was an important lesson for me.

Hi Anna, I did receive your e-mail and I responded that it indeed looks like a great suggestion, because it is addressing the underlying cause of grief. I will let you know how she does on the ign tomorrow.
Hi Snoopy, What I won't give for a photographic memory so I could cross-reference all those remedies in my head! Its wonderful that there are so many knowledgable people here with various experiences to draw from.

dear krista

sorry about that - forgot to check my email this evening, but on doing so, received your mail thank you.

in this case, the drooping head seemed to me the most unusual aspect. and the eye discharge is fairly unusual with a respiratory infection too.

well, paws crossed.

I'm afraid I didn't have any ign and it was too late in the day to purchase some, so poor kitty went without. I did notice however that where the yellow had been on the tongue (middle) last night it had changed to fuzzy white with the edges shiny red and 2 ulcers on either side of the tip. (This morning, less fuzzy white). The ulcers around her lips were also bleeding easily when disturbed. The drool also gets worse when I first start to clean her up (almost like a response to something). She still hangs her head and when I'm cleaning/feeding her she will press her head into the crook of my arm (like pressure relieves). The eye discharge is still mainly in the corners and whitish yellow. She must be feeling better, because she is a bit more spirited (especially around other cats). With the tongue change, does ign still fit? I believe Anna felt the strongest indications for ign was the dropping head and eye discharge as well addressing grief.

Dear Krista,

If the cat's improving on Puls., I think we have to stay with it until it proves itself inadaquate.
The change in tongue color is for the better, I believe.

The cat seems to be improving in that her ulcers are healing, but now her eyes are terribly inflammed. The right eye keeps sealing shut. The discharge og both eyes, crust arounf the entire margins of both eyes. There is a lot of redness and some swelling of the conjuntivi. She still drools (mostly when stimulated, food etc) and still resists food. Her nasal discharge is now greyish instead of clear. I did try Ign over the weekend, but I'm afraid it did not have much effect. I'm not terribly concerned about the cat, I know she will eventually get better, but the last one I treated with this virus was sick for over a month (constant feeding, fluids etc.) Any other suggestions? Thanks
