Thanks scruffrat, I will look into it tonight. She has a few more days on the Nat mur LM1 and it must be working because she is eating really well and is now back on her raw food diet and is handling the small bits of bone ok.

She is "off" again! I looked into Kreos and she doesn't seem to fit that picture at all. Would it be logical to graduate to nat mur LM2? Still the same picture, although she will eat A/D (a process prescription diet with the consistancy of pudding; yet she will refuse milk or other foods I've put through the processor?)

Scruffrat, My take on the kreos is that the patient is usually chilly or cold, also that the mouth is full of decayed teeth, foul smelling and generally really gross. Also urination is frequent. My gal has had all the teeth removed, there is no odor or drool from her mouth -in fact there is no infection just inflamation of the back area extending to the throat (looks a little like raw hamburger back there). I have posted on another thread looking for additional info on kreos or a clinical perpsective because I am not too familiar with this remedy and I have not used it before, I'm not sure if I am interpreting its description properly. Can you shed some light on it for me please? This cat is wild and extremely difficult to medicate and monitor. She has been confined for over a month now and I feel pressure to let her go before she goes bonkers on me, I guess thats why I'm being so careful with what she is getting so I don't unnecessarily prolong her case. Thanks in advance!

Krista,
I was going on the gum symptoms in your first post, however kreosote has rapid emaciation, as scaping and roughness in throat with dryness and pain as of excoriation or pressure in throat on swallowing, upper oesophagus erroded. Now that you have described her throat I wonder about cantharis or mercurius cyanatus. Would be good to see her throat. I wish animals could talk, it make life so much easier! however I have had lots of successes due to observation only.I hope we can help and alleviate this cats misery. Scruffrat |

Thanks for the info, I'm going to take her case again tonight (there must be other symptoms I am missing). I hope to post my findings tomorrow and any input would be greatly appreciated. If any questions come to mind, please post them as they may lead to the discovery of "missing symptoms".

Scruffrat, I did do some work on this case last night, but I still haven't been able to clear a path towards treatment.
I am conviniced that her failure to eat her usual raw diet is not mental, because it is clear that as time passes she is having more and more pain again when she eats the processed diet. A lot of gagging, choking and shaking her head and mad flapping of the tongue. Since the nat mur, she has been eating, so her hydration and energy are pretty good (not severly debilitated -unlike the picture of merc cyan). What I can not dicount is that the Nat Mur works but does not last (I have no doubt that if I started her again, she would improve again, but then slide back to her original state within a few days of completing treatment). I know its time to move on, but I have been unable to find a successor to the nat m. I did see a link to phos however (it does have the burning throat and the dry stool), caust is still in the running as well as calc carb. Interesting link to carbo veg which I am inclined to dismiss because of her state. As promised the symptoms: * raw, inflamed (but not infectious)back of mouth and throat area * water comsumption minimal * urine output normal * stool, small and dry (which is normal if eating raw, but strange that it has not become more moist from the commercial diet) * pain upon eating and I assume drinking (gagging etc) (anything going down the throat) * mentally: normal to restless (restlessness could be attributed to confinement)-has been unusually vocal in the past week (never says a peep otherwise) * tongue appears healthy, but may be considered "flat" * front of mouth membranes of normal colour, front teeth (are the only teeth) and appear free of decay or tartar; no inflamation of the gums apparent towards the front of her mouth. * large, distended abdomin (appears to be normal body type for her) * light complected (light, apricot tabby; freckles) * terrified of my touch, can not stand for me to touch her (but this has always been the case with her) * live trapped 4 years ago (she is probably 6-7 years old) from a colony along with her kittens and another adult and her kittens (Becky, the other adult is probably her mother -she is not as feral and I would guess she had a home in her early life); family history strongly suggest inherant weakened immune systems; one of Emily's kittens died with no explaination, the other 3 all have had major dentistries; mother Becky also had major dentistry and both of her kids have chronic upper respiratory ailments |

Hi Krista,
Just read your post. Much better picture, well done! If she were my cat I would give her CANTHARIS Symptoms using Condensed Materia Medica by C.Hering, among others. Treat the throat. Regards Scruffrat |
