Unhappy

Hi everyone,
I've been trying to fix this myself, but because I'm still studying homeopathy, I haven't been able to work out the correct remedy.
A decayed tooth -aren't there a lot of tooth problems at the moment!- has started to really hurt. The Sx I used were:
<night
<right side
increased salivation
<<cold drinks
pains radiating to front teeth, temples and neck
>pressure -clenching teeth
concomitant: aching limbs and sleepiness during day, with insomnia
throbbing pain
Merc and Staph both seemed to fit, particularly Merc. But I didn't have the sweating or offensiveness, and Staph fit the mental picture and some other general symptoms better, so I took that in a 200. It seemed to really help for a couple of days, emotionally as well -I have been dealing with some harrassment at work.
Then the toothache came back -I have seen a dentist, and he is waiting for the xrays- and neither Staph nor Merc helped. Belladonna and Cham didn't either, so I caved in and took some painkillers and their suppressive action had me waking up next morning with a swollen jaw - infection. Now the Sx are:
pain< bending down
still < night
photophobia
< drinking anything
pulsating, stabbing pain
swollen red right cheek -this is where I tried the Bell again, no effect. The cheek is also itchy, but it hurts to scratch.

I understand that it has to be fixed mechanically, but is there anything I can do to avoid using codiene and antibiotics to manage it?

Both heckla lava and hypericum have helped me in the past while waiting to go to dentist.

When you find a remedy that works great--like Staph. in this case--you have to repeat it right away when it wears off. Remedies wear off, it's common; you can't throw in the towel when they do, you have to repeat them immediately, preferably in water so that subsequent doses can be altered slightly by succussion, as the Organon says. Maybe Staph. will work again if you put it in water.

Secondly, if Merc. looked like a good possibility, don't count it out just because you weren't sweating. I've taken Puls. many times for indigestion and I wasn't crying or opening the windows.

Maybe it's too late for these 2 remedies, I don't
know, but, when I have an acute, I never give up; I keep trying til something works.

This is NOT a true acute... it is an acute exacerbation of chronic and a parade of remedies is not a good choice. The best possibility would be for you to see a trained homeopath rather than trying to prescribe for yourself... it is very unlikely that someone can be objective enough to prescribe for themself. It may be that you will loose the tooth or require dental work, but this does not resolve the underlying problem that made you susceptable to tooth decay and infection in the first place....if one has been prescribed for correctly, they should not need to take remedies for common symptoms that are part of their chronic disease... true acutes are self limiting and only require treatment if very severe or the vital force is unable to respond on its own.... palliation until you see a dentist is one option, but regardless of what you decide to do with the tooth I would take this opportunity to present your case to a trained homeopath.... Hi Snoopy - I did try repetition and a higher potency of the Staph, but it didn't help. I also tried Merc, because the Sx seemed so syphilitic and fit Merc so well, but perhaps the 200 I had was too low.
I just wanted remedy ideas for palliation while waiting for the xray results. The problem is now structural, so a remedy can't fix it. I would prefer to see a homoeopath, but money's a bit tight - I'll manage the pain and infection with herbs, but of course would rather use my favourite modality!
I saw Hecla, but it didn't come up in the repping, nor did Hyp. I look them up, thanks.

Hi, The best thing to do in the interim is Plantago Mother tincture applied locally with a little cotton. Works like a miracle.

All the best,
Dr. leela

Hi Elena,

Plantago is a good idea. I repertorized your case and all the remedies you tried came up, of course: Merc, Cham, Bell, even Staphysagria. So in "Stress Small Remedies", the ones that came to the top were Spigelia and Mag-c.

If there are anymore modalities or peculiar symptoms, let us know.

Hi,

if yoy want to apply something locally, there is one old proven remedy, which is Clove Oil. Apply that with cotton bud to the hollow of the decayed tooth. It will sting in the first place but it will bring in the relief and this oil is also antiseptic.

Elena,

Another possibility is, when a remedy really works well and then stops, you can consider a complementary remedy. Causticum a complement of Staph. and it also came up in my reperatorization.

Another thought: Sulphur is a 3 in the rubric, generals, swelling, inflamatory
plus Sulphur is known for its red color and itching.

Good luck!
