According to a well-informed friend, in an informal chat, after the meeting concerning withdrawal of 15% tax on homoeopathic medicines was over, the Health Minister, Dr. Kansi, was very critical of the way homeopathy was being thrust upon the masses. By that, I presume, he meant the flood of advertisements in the eveningers of our major cities by some charlatans among our ranks and files and also by some unscrupulous manufacturing companies – both local and foreign.

What role can a general homoeopathic practitioner play to stall such negative trends?
What should be done to gain government support for homeopathy in Pakistan?
Any thoughts?

Thanks for sending the addresses of some homeopaths of karachi. My patient met with them.

Yes! it need more effort. Few days ago Dr.MAS organized a big homeopathic seminar at Jinnah Hall, Gujrat. He came from Jhelum. Beside homeopaths some civil people were also sitting. High officials from different Union Coucils and members were also invited.

He gave information about the efficacy of homeopathic system and inform the general public about its true status. He also distributed his URDU software "Homeo Vision".

Dr. Ahmed Bhatti, representative of WHO also gave lecture. You will soon see the report on net. Dr. Shahkeel Sarwar the editor Ninja is compiling the report.

Another free big and big. You can't imagine. At least 2000 (Two thousand) patients visited that medical camp. Again peoples were informed about the true system of medicine.

Dr. Khalid Saboor, Dr. Mujahid Hussain, Dr. M Iqbal Dr. Majid and Dr. Shahkeel Sarwar (All are the member of this board) were also participated.

You will soon see the free another big medical report too. Just like we have seen earlier.

All these activities are helpful in creating awareness. Awareness cannot be creating while sitting at home. For this purpose you have to give time, mind and money.

If a single person is doing such activities with the collaboration of other doctors then we should encourage him and not to discourage.

Your information is confirmed by the minister. But it will take three months (at least) to bring back original medincinal prices.

Dr. Salim,

The prices can immediately return to the pre-General Sales Tax-imposition position provided our importers and wholesalers show the same degree of alacrity as they did by enhancing the prices at the time of the imposition of the GST.

When the GST was imposed in March last, the importers and wholesalers were quick in selling their old stocks with accretion of GST. Some of the importers are believed to have made millions out of this "windfall" . So now when the GST has been withdrawn the importers and wholesalers should forego some share of their profit by passing on the benefit to the end-user.

It is your true thought. But practically it is not possible immediatly to remove GST from homoeopathic medicines.

I visited Gujrat few days ago and met with Dr. Azhar Cheema. He said "we recently purchase WS potencies of amounting Rs. 30,000. with GST". No distributor will return those potencies.
