Hi all,
I'm in need of some feedback on my treatment. I would call my homeopath, but she'll charge me a phone consultation fee since it's over 30 days since my last appt, and I can't afford that so I'm hoping you guys can answer a few questions for me. I have a chronic autoimmune thyroid problem and I was on full replacement thyroid medication, but not doing particularly well on it. I had my first remedy about a month ago and it was a 200C carcinosin. About two weeks after the remedy I became more hypothyroid and then a week after that I started getting thyroiditis consisting of swelling of the thyroid, anxiety, fatigue and general aches and pains. I decided to try lowering my dose of thyroid medication just a tiny bit to see if the thyroiditis would calm down and it did right away. (I have what you could call an allergy to thyroid hormone, so the medication seems to perpetuate my autoimmune response.) But ever since I lowered my dose of thyroid medication my allergies have flared up worse than I've had them since going on medication 14 years ago. I'm having constant sneezing, red itchy watery eyes, congestion, and tons of post nasal drip. I'm miserable and I can't use antihistamines because they set off my thyroiditis. So I'm not sure what to do. I have my six week follow-up appt with my homeopath on the 17th and I'm wondering if it would be advantageous to my treatment to leave my symptoms unmasked as they are now, rather than to up my thyroid and suppress the condition again? If you think so, I'll stick it out and somehow manage until I see my dr again. My theory is that the remedy can work better on restoring my thyroid function if I'm not fully suppressed on medication, but I don't know if that's necessarily true. What do you guys think about this? Thanks, Shirl |

Hi Shirl,
I've been wondering about you and Mike. How is he? Listen, we never take people off their meds, that's for the MD to do. It's not our place. The remedies work anyway. If you give daily low repeated doses, the issue of antidoting by the medicines becomes a moot point. I wonder if Thyroid 6X 3 times a day to restore the normal functioning of your thyroid might not be a good idea. I'm sorry I'm in a rush and can't give your question more time; hopefully someone else will give you the time you deserve. Talk to you again soon, Snoopy |

Thanks for the reply, Snoopy. Mike is slowly improving with acupuncture and massage therapy.
I don't have an MD who gives a fig about me. I'm with an HMO and no one there cares or is willing to help me, which is why I turned to homeopathy in the first place. I wouldn't want to try any other homeopathic remedies without them coming from my homeopath. Wouldn't the Thyroid 6X antidote or otherwise interfere with the carcinosin? I'm using a couple of supplements to help stimulate thyroid function, but I don't think they're doing anything yet. The allergies are so miserable I'm just not sure what I should do. Maybe I'm not clear on how the remedies work when you're taking a medication that totally suppresses the function of a gland. How can the gland begin to function unless you unsuppress it a bit? Shirley,
I already said I didn't want to use a remedy without my homeopath's approval so that's not in question. What I'm wondering is whether I should increase my thyroid medication again or leave it where it is and just suffer through. My question is whether a remedy can restore thyroid function if the thyroid is being totally suppressed by allopathic medication? Isn't it better to unsuppress it a bit so the remedy can stimulate it to function? If so, I'll suffer through and leave my dose where it is. If it really doesn't matter and the remedy can stimulate it to function even though it's being artificially suppressed, then I'll up my dose back to where it was for some relief of the allergies. Thanks, Shirl |

I assume you have Hashimotos Thyroiditis and are taking Synthyroid
Its well known that many people are 1) allergic to the fillers in the tablets or 2) are unable to correctly convert the T4 in Synthyroid to the T3 the body cells need Also the adrenals tend to be stressed/ worn out as a result of years of Antibody attack but of course Allopathic medicine will only recognise Addisons Disease or Cushings Disease and nothing in between I am sure if you have a really good Homeopath who has been trained to use Classical Homeopathy that a constitutional remedy will be found to assist you however i do know from other Thyroid patients and my husbands own struggles that it takes time Meanwhile to try and understand your Thyroid problems you might want to look at www.drlowe.com |

Thanks Pat! You're right about the Hashi's. I've never done well on the meds either. I don't convert them well and if I take a t3 medication with the levothroid I feel better but then my menstrual cycle becomes aberrated and we're trying to conceive so that's not acceptable. So I really want to get off medication completely or at least reduce it down to a supplemental dose if it's possible to restore my own thyroid function at all.
I also have adrenal insufficiency and take a dessicated adrenal supplement for that. You're right...the drs don't know squat about anything short of addison's disease. How's your husband doing? Has he been in treatment long? Has he been able to reduce his thyroid meds at all? Shirl |

The homeopath who tried treating my husband long before he even got diagnosed with Hashis had no luck whatever in finding his constitutional remedy
I think his body and entire character is so totally screwed up by a lifetime of Hashis that it will take a miracle to help him now at 60 yrs old He is lousy on Synthyroid and only sort of OK on T3 ........Armour is off limits in the UK No wish to be negative but if I could turn back the clock i would not have had children Both our daughters have problems .......one is most certainly Thyroid Hormone resistant Pretty sure one of the grandkids is heading same way |
