I agree 1 (one) dose of Arnica is likely appropriate since it seems the injury would justify some complaining and your son is not doing so, but please do not give him a 200C Arnica 3 times a day.... also, you have stated there is no swelling or other symptoms to base any other remedy on... this is in fact an 'acute' condition and therefore a healthy 14 year old will likely heal well on his own and should be allowed to do so unless symptoms develope to indicate another remedy.... washing the wound with calendula tincture diluted in water or using one of the topicals Ricky indicated would be the most I would do in addition to 1 (one) dose of Arnica unless new symptoms develope, at which time you could post them so an accurate remedy can be suggested... just my opinion... Denise,
I will start him off with 1 dose and see how he does. I was suprised my son wasn't complaining myself. I ordered some Cal. spray. I was told to leave the steri strips over the stitches for a few days to help keep the wound closed, so I won't be able to apply any external remedies until the strips fall off on their own. I am changing the dressing daily to help keep it clean and dry. There is not much drainage from the wound so far. There was some concern about stitching the wound closed as he really shredded the skin quite messily. The Treating ER Doc decided to try stitching rather than cut what was left of the skin away. If it doesn't heal properly, there is some concern he may need skin grafts as the skin was sheared so deeply and the wound is wide. If he has any complications, I will likely take him to see my homeopath, as he is also an MD and can manage the case as well as arrange for any additional care he may need. Unfortunately, this Doctor doesn't take my particular health insurance, so I pay out of pocket for office visits, but so far I am pleased with his care and fortunate to have found a physician who also practices homeopathically. They are not easy to find! We only have a few in my state. Thanks for your response. Marisa |

Thanks Ricky for clarifying that. I gave him one dose of Arnica 200 this afternoon. Should I begin the Calendula tomorrow? He is now beginning to complain of some pain, for which I have given him Tylenol. (I'm assuming the local anesethesia they gave him has completely warn off by now, though I was suprised it took this long for him to complain of any pain.)
gpm-thanks again for the link. The remedies and spray were here this morning, and I just ordered them yesterday afternoon. Marisa |
