I have a problem with prickly heat, red rash and nettle type stinging when in the sunshine.
Over the last couple of years I have been increasingly suffering on my chest and arms when out in sunshine. In the past I have just put up with it as it has not been that bad, but this April we went on holiday and got it really bad. I had an emergency hom kit with me and tried Urtica Urens to no success. I ended up taking anti-histamine tabs, cream and an injection. I did not want to do this, but it got so bad that I just wanted the stinging to stop. Since then I have had prickly heat every time in the sun (being the south of england that has only been a few occasions since april!!). It normally starts about 1/2 hour after being in the sun if I have not been out in the sun for a few days or it itches straight away if I have been in the sun recently (eg the day before). If I stay out of the sun the prickly heat normally irritates for a couple of days before it disappears. The last time I got prickly heat was a couple of weeks ago. I took Rhus Tox and that night my skin felt like pins and needles and the next day my skin was still a bit bumpy but pain free! Today I was out in the sun for about an hour and nothing has happened! I was under the impression that Homeopathy can't prevent the prickly heat but can just releave the pain so I am a bit confused as to why I did not get anything today. So I would like advice from anyone who has experience with prickly heat and if remedies can actually be preventitive. In the long term, I dont want to have to take any anti-histamines to prevent it - but I need to do something. I think that my constitutional remedy might help, but I am seeing a homeopath for other things (IBS type symptoms) and she has not managed to pinpoint my constitution yet. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Lou |

I had a case of somebody having this particular sensitivity to sunlight and intense itching, little rash, mainly on forearms and legs. Since in her case, this sensitivity has appeared every Spring and lasted until Fall for a few years now, I ended up prescribing constitutionally. It turned out that mental/emotional sx improved first, other physical sx improved and now, 6 weeks after the dose, the sensitivity to sunlight is lessening, itching is less severe, lasting less long etc. The remedy which fitted the totality of her sx was Causticum.
Since your allergic reaction has also been going on for some years now, I believe it should be taken into account when prescribing constitutionally. If you haven't done so already, you might wish to inform your homeopath about these sx. Claudia
