Unhappy

Can anyone please advise.....

12 year old with Chicken Pox (2nd child to get it in family). I think all spots are out now and starting to crust over. He's covered from head to toe, literally! The big problem is the one's in his mouth and throat, it's making him miserable and difficult to eat and drink.

I have been giving him Rhus Tox. which has helped up to now.

Is there anything I can give to ease his throat and mouth?

He's generally getting through it very well, I just want to make him comfortable.

Many thanks in advance.

I know I got rid of this throat problem in an adult but can't remember whether it was Ant. Tart. or Ant Crud I used. Has the tongue got a thick white coating or not? If yes it is Ant. Crud. There are lots of remedies for chicken pox so really we need more of a description of exactly how it is affecting him. Is the mouth better or worse for hot or cold drinks? What is he craving to drink?

Chicken pox is a childhood disease and should be treated with nothing unless life threatening symptoms appear... a look at Hahnemann's Chronic Diseases will explain... also, since Rhus has already been given, apparently repeatedly, there is possibility of aggravation at this point... I suggest only 'comfort' care be given in the form of soothing drinks and/or foods for the throat UNLESS the symptoms are life threatening... Denise

If rhus is indicated in first stage it should be given in single dose.otherwise excess eruption will appear most probably 'rhus eruptions'.In second stage after vesicle(the pustular stage is skipped by our treatment)formation with infected scab ,you can think of 'Mers sol 200 'one or two doses.if patient is weak and still fever and with throat symptoms you can think 'baptisia'.so according to the present state the medicine differs.

Soothing baths with corn starch will help him "endure" the spots if no remedy helps. I agree that the childhood disease is best let to run its course unless there are severe complications. It is known that chicken pox is easier on younger kids than on older kids or adults.

Thank you to all who replied.

I agree that Chicken Pox is an illness that should be left alone to run it's course. I was merely helping my son with the intense itching at the onset and now wanted to help with his throat/mouth. I gave Merc Sol only two doses in 24 hours and he seems much better. Once again almost back to the "teenager" I had a few days ago!

I'm sorry I haven't replied sooner, but I had a root canal filling (unexpected!) yesterday and I've been feeling a little fragile to say the least!

Thanks again.
