I have a friend who loathes tobacco smoke, but smokes herself on her balcony, so I was wondering whether it is possible to repertorise this? I find it really funny that she does not wish to give up smoking and pays so much attention so that her clothes and furniture was free of that particular smell... THanks in advance, HelenaZ |

Hi Elena,
This is a tough one. BUt maybe you need to investigate the real reason why she wants her clothes and furniture to be free of the smell. She's probably addicted to smoking, which is one symptoms. Aversion to cigarette smoke may mean more than that. It maybe that she is very fastidious and wants things clean. IT may mena a type of impression she want's to create - wild guess! OR someone around her (past or present) is aggravated by the cigarette smoke more than her and she's doing her best to reduce the "tension"!. Warm regards, doctorleela

Interesting but not an uncommon symptom. I know lots of smokers or ex smokers who hated the smell of smoke but were smokers themselves.

Do you have Murphy's Repertory? In the Toxicity chapter, go to Tobacco and look at the subrubrics:
Aversion, sensitive to smell of Aversion, can't bear the smell Aversion, tobacco smoke I have to say, Ignatia, Lobelia and Lycopodium are the big winners here with Ignatia as the only "3", but there are other remedies as well. Snoopy |

Thank you very much for your answers!
SNOOPY, I don't have the Murphy's repertory, unfortunately, thank you for the information! BARB, I was not aware that it is not so uncommon, frankly speaking, she's the first person with this symptom that I've met, usually it's that the person cannot tolerate the tobacco smell altogether and does not smoke himself is what I've seen, at least in Russia... Or maybe I did not pay attention to that then, which is more probable. THank you for the comment! Dr. Leela, She told me that shen when she had more work and was busier she was able to refrain from smoking mostly, about 1-2 cigarettes a day. She's rather a cleanly person too. She lives alone now, far from her family which she misses a lot, I guess. She also has vitiligo, which has worsened much after Chernobyl accident, it appears she was slightly exposed as she lived not far from there at the moment. I was not able to find vitiligo in the Kent's repertory too. Concerning addiction, I'm a bit ashamed to admit that I too smoked quite heavily for a short period - half a year or so, during my University years but giving up was extremely easy for me, one day I just thought that it's no good and it makes me feel bad, which it did, and never ever I had any craving afterwards. Does that say anything about an underlying miasm, I mean that I did not become addicted? HelenaZ |

If u look at the desire and aversion there is an apparent contradiction. She 'smokes tobacco' AND hates 'tobacco smoke'. Ignatia should be given a thought.

Thank you very much for the suggestions!
Actually this person has also other symptoms as well, like once in a while she's down with a fever which is not like common cold or anything, no obvious reason, which comes off by itself in some 3 days if she keep relatively still. Recently she told me that she can no longer drink wine. She also has a lot of toothache and bleeding gums which improve on massaging, and get worse during menses and when she's under stress. She's rather mild and moderately religious, which is not common for Russians of her age, they tend to be atheistic or the like. The most difficult thing is that she was once given a combination remedy which made her feel very nasty, so she's not extremely positive about homeopathy in general. I'm sure that I'll be able to persuade her to try if I had something reasonable for her to offer, at least close, not to try it, but to tell me her history so that I could verify the remedy. So any suggestions are welcome, HelenaZ. |
