I am curious about the state of homeopathy in other countries. Is it common? Can you find homeopaths in a phone book? Does the average person know what it is? Can you walk down the street and see an office sign?

thanks

UK
Common? - depends what town

Phone - Yes - In yellow pages under Homeopath

Well known- again depends what part of the country. Where I live it is not which is why I do the Evening classes and am in various places during Homeopathy Awareness Week (14th -21st June) to promote it.

Sign - yes in some parts of UK!There is one in my town that Reads Acupuncture and Homeopathy!! He is a member of the Faculty of Homeopaths as he is a nurse and puts people on a machine to decide which remedy , which is not homeopathy as far as I am concerned!!

We have quite a few here in Saskatoon, Canada but they are not widely known. You can't find homeopath in the yellow pages. There are a few who practice acupuncture, homeopathy, etc. I think most of them are Chinese.

There is a naturopath in a small city near here who uses a lot of homeopathic medicine in his practice but it is not practiced like some of the homeopaths I see posting here.

I'm just starting into homeopathy care myself so I don't know too much about it. I do know, however, that there are a few practitioners around here but I don't really know how competent they are.

There at least 100000 registered doctors in Pakistan. You can see number of clinics all around Pakistan. It is progressing day by day. National Council For Homeopathy (NCH) is the office which is dealing all affairs of homeopathy in Pakistan. It is the sub office running under ministry of Health in Pakistan. There are two hundred recognised college in Paksitan. I am the vice principal in tahir homeopathic medical college.

There are two courses are going on side by side. One is DHMS and other is BHMS. DHMS course is of four year duration and NCH is handling all affairs of DHMS. One can get license of practice after getting DHMS.

Three recognized universities are taking BHMS exams. These universities are running under UGC (University Grant Commission) of Pakistan.

Homoeopathy is recognized at Government level. Medical Homoeopathic Doctors are working in Government Hospitals in each city.

Homeopathic activities are very popular here in Pakistan. Pakistan Homeopathic Society is one the largest organization at SOCIETY LEVEL. It was founded by five members. These include Dr.MAS, Dr. M Iqbal, Dr. Faisal, Dr. Rasheed and Dr. Inayat. It is non political society who’s main aim is to promote homeopathic activities and education. It is creating awareness among general public at highest level. I am the chief public coordinator of the society and joined after two years of its creation.

PK sinha,

In India there are approx 95000 (Ninty five thousand) homoeopathic doctors are living. Only India and Pakistan are those countries where homeopathy is recognized at Government level. Government is appointing Homoeo Medical Officers in their Health Departments. From District Health Officer (DHO) to Section Officer in Ministry of Health. This is not practicing in any other part of the world.

BHMS is more popular in India than DHMS but in Pakistan DHMS is popular than BHMS. Both are equal courses. But the way of study and standard is slightly different.

In India BHMS colleges are larger in quantity and very well established while in Pakistan there are only four sub campus for BHMS.

In rest of the countries. Homoeopathy is acceptable at society / organization / association level. If one can get the registration of organization or council then he / she can practice homeopathy but government is not recognizing the system. But in Pakistan and India parliament passed the bill of ayurvedic and homeopathic practice bill in 1965 and 1956 respectively. In other countries no parliament so for passed the bill.

In Some countries like UK. Ministry of Health decided that they will not check homoeopathic practitioner who will get membership of non government organization. Hence some homeopathic practitioner are member of many councils and organizations. But if you some body knows the meaning of recognized system. These organizations are running under civil persons. Ministry of Health is supporting them with annual budget. But in India and Pakistan. Ministry of Health used to allocate budget for homoeopathic health care.

In the UAE there are a handful of people practising homeopathy, but one will not find them listed in any directory or one cannot even buy the medicine off the rack in a pharmacy(even the low potencies, which are I believe available in some countries over the counter). There are some qualified homeopaths who practice it from home ..Licences are not issued by the Govt as there was no body/dept dealing with alternative medicine.Of Late however there has been some talk of starting it,there are some exams which one has to write before getting a licence to practice..all in the process so its a positive sign for people like me ,all these years I have been getting my medicines from India /England,thru friends etc.
