As in baby who only gets relief from lying across someone's legs..while the person with the legs, that would be me, has to move them continously. Baby in that position passes gas. |

Hi Carol. There are 17 remedies listed in Murphys for colic in infants. Ones that figure highly are coloc, cham, mag phos, puls, and calc phos.
Does the infant scream in pain? Whine? Cry? Can you give more mentals? Does the infant draw its legs up(is it old enough to?) When you repp infant colic, pressure amel, motion amel, coloc comes up high (So does dios). There is a rubric- infant, colic, flatulent with drawing legs up and Mag Phos is the only listed remedy. Based only on the physicals I'd look at coloc or mag phos but more info is needed. Of course you know the characteristics of Cham and Puls - do these fit? barb

When you say lying across the legs do you mean face down? If so, it sounds as if one of the very important symptoms in this case is a harder type of pressure. there is the increased pressure of gravity on the organs when lying on the legs and the motion would also exert increased pressure of a harder type. I'm certain the motion also is an important symptom. ABDOMEN; PAIN; General; pressure; amel. The temperament should be angry to choose colocynthis. Also, as Barb suggested you might want to include some other symptoms for clarification, especially mental state. I agree with her that mag-p, calc-p, cham, etc can also be good remedies for colic, but the above strong ameliorating modality you mentioned is very important in choosing the remedy and so i would give coloc. some real consideration. She is almost 4 months. Breast fed. The abdomen seemed hard and the cry seemed in pain, angry.and full of tears. Face red. Legs almost blue. What you would expect if a pin was sticking in her. Later, as sweet as could be. I've seen her face go back and forth between smiling and worry...not during the colic time. I tried drawing her legs up...that didn't help. Just walking around movement didn't help. I tried efflerage on legs...no help. Holding her facing out with pressure on abdomen, didn't help. Just facing down on legs with rocking movement. It didn't seem to matter if my timing of movement wasn't vey rhythmic..hard to keep a timing in that position..this position helped and she fell asleep. I had looked in her diaper after the gas...a little yellowish spotting. This wasn't gurgling time to poop gas...this was like a lot of pressure coming out.
So the next time...have coloc 30c on hand? And what about the suggestion from the Marcussen site that this might be a chiropractic problem? |

Hi,
It doesn't matter if it is a vaginal delivery or one by c-section. In both cases the baby's head will have gone through some deformation. Baby cranio-sacral treatment which is very gentle can help a great deal. Good luck with a remedy choice. One of the most common ones is Cham, and Colocynthis as well. Both of those worked for my daughter when she had colic. The mother might want to check her diet too. I went off dairy products and gassy foods until the colic stopped. Claudia
