Dear All,

A very intelligent person but still full of fear of superstitions e.g. If he does not do his rituals which are repetitive, he thinks that some thing is going to happen and there will be a failure or a misfortune etc. In other words he shi*** himself when he cannot finish his rituals .

The fact is that he knows that this whole phenomena is sickening him and not helping him to progress further, but he feels that he is stuck.

I think that he needs a kind of suggestion to get out of this bound kind of thing, to think freely and to do whatever he wants to do.

I think superstitions has taken so many lives in our indian Culture and i do not want this person end up in that way.

Please ask me any questions you want.

The problem with me is that i have to ask these questions in a disguised manner because of relationship.

Please give me some suggestions which line of thought I should take.

What about a rubric about "fixed ideas"? There may be a good remedy in there.

Also, could his reaction (shi** himself if he can't finish his rituals) be a kind of fear of an impending ordeal--or that "something will happen"?

Thank You very much Shashi for starting this post. I think that person does not require any remedy suggested by Ricky but need LOVE. You can easily handle that person with LOVE. I am going to assure you just say a few words of LOVE. He/she will never do shi***. He/she is a patient and you are a doctor. You have to do your job. Deal him like a patient. I am in MTD (Malaysian Tourism Dept). I always convince people with love and saying soft words. Just try my option. Say few words to him/her about his/her quality and appreciate him/her. You will never lose. Just like you said he/she is intelligent.

Shashi this sounds very much like what Ricky asked about - OCD. If it is - it'll take more than love to cure.

Hi Shashi,

I know you said you have to ask questions in a disguised manner..but could you simply ask him: "If you aren't able to finish "X" (whatever it is), how would this affect you?"

Do you think that might get him talking a bit more? Or do you already know what he's going to say. What I mean is - being that you have certain rituals and supersitions - do you think that because you're both from the same culture - he would tailor his answer to ensure you saw him as 'holding to tradition'? Does that make sense?

Are there other things which are clear in the case? If so - perhaps rep that out and see what it brings up - then hit the MM and see if any of those happen to cover this trait seeing you can't pin it to a rubric?

Just a thought or two,
Good luck,
Lisa

Surely the root of this patients problems leads way back to childhood .........can you not discover what strange behaviour was displayed/ required by the parents

I very much doubt that the behaviour is totally inborn .......more a tendency severly aggravated by some irrational fear or chastisement or punishment of which probably the patient is far too fearful to speak

eg ......if the patient was sexually abused as A CHILD UNDER THREAT OF DEATH OR DIRE CONSEQUENSES IF THEY TOLD ANYONE would land up later in life shutting out the very fears and memories that caused so much hurt

What’s going on here? Why masses are talking here so silly. Are they doctors? Is this the language they used to talk in daily routine? Very strange…

Hi there, well we would definitely need more info - how does the person act and feel while completing these rituals? as said above, what is the feeling if not allowed to complete them? What sorts of rituals and are they done quickly, slowly, and what is the person trying to prevent by doing them? what sorts of disasters are they afraid of?
some preliminary thoughts and possibilities depending on what is really going oncomplete repertory)

MIND; THOUGHTS; persistent (K87, SI-1006, G70) (100)
MIND; ANXIETY; trifles, about (K8, SI-97, G7) (29)
MIND; MONOMANIA (K67, SI-760, G54) (35)
MIND; IDEAS; fixed (48)
MIND; DELUSIONS, imaginations; happen, that something terrible is going to (K26, SI-297, G22) MIND; FEAR; happen; something will (98) (4)

of course these would depend on the answers to the above questions!

I am feeling ignominy after reading such malevolent thoughts of members. I never read such rubbish language. I am really surprised.
