Hi All,

I just got an email from my sister who ruptured her achilles tendon on Monday. It broke in half. She had surgery yesterday. Doc says 3 months in a cast and 9 months to recover. She is currently taking Tylenol 3 for the pain. She does not have easy access to homepathic remedies, but I thought if anyone had recommendations, not only for the pain but for a more rapid healing she could order via the internet and hopefully have them within a few days. I have only just begun my studies and because it is my sister, I can't think straight. I know Arnica is good immediately, but like I said, it will be days before she is able to get anything. Hypericum? Symphytum? Aarrgghhh I can't find my emergency remedy guide. Much appreciated if anyone has any advice.

Thanks,
Gini

There is an article in this months Homeoapthy today that deals with ruptured tendons - do you have that by any chance? I think my hubby threw mine out but will look around.

Rhus Tox is the only remedy listed in the COMBINED for Tendons, Ruptured - Ruta and Calendula are the only 2 listed in Murphy for achilles tendon injuries to.

If I were you I'd have her take a 200c of Arnica now and then order the others immediately.

Then from the Naturopath in me - have her eat lightly and only fresh, live foods for awhile to let the body focus on healing.

Barb

Wait for more replies though

Hi Barb, Thanks for the info. Unfortunetly I haven't subscribed to Homeopathy Today. I did print out the application form last week and will now definitely get it off tomorrow. Since she is not very mobile her husband is preparing meals , but she did mention that he was making a salad for lunch . If you do come accross your issue of homeopathy today and have the time to write, I would appreciate any more info you could give me. Thanks Again

curses! I must've tossed out the Homeopathy Today literature.

I think if you get those few remedies I listed above you'll do fine.

Hi Barb & Pat,
Thanks. I sent her an email with info about both Rhus Tox and Arnica last night. Hopefully she will be able to get some soon. I am feeling much more calm about it now. I haven't talked to her today so I don't know if she was able to get them. We live in different time zones and it is sometimes difficult to connect.

Last night just as I was dropping off to sleep I remembered that the next tape in the series that the school sent me was about Arnica and Rhus Tox, so first thing this morning I put it in the walkman and went for a long walk with the dog. It was very interesting and I'll listen again and make sure I take notes. Too bad I hadn't gotten to it sooner.

Thanks again, have a great day, I'm going to sleep now.

I would be more likely to go with Ruta Grav 6 3x a day after the Arnica. I am away at the moment so no access to books however she could try going to www.abchomeopathy.com and working through her symptoms. Remembering that Sulphur usually comes up as the top remedy see which comes up next after that, Ruta or the Rhus.

hello ginimas, as ricky states, the remedy [as always] will depend on the symptoms rather than the diagnosis.

a tip i discovered from someone who had visited the bone-mending monasteries in the east was that plaster of paris casts are energetically very cooling and slow greatly the healing of tissue beneath. if possible to obtain, the modern non-plaster casts used in some hospitals are far preferable to plaster casts - as has been discovered in conventional medical trials.

Good Morning Ricky and Anna,
Thanks for the additional info. I had forgotten about the abc site. I'll send her the link. I hope she has found a source for remedies in her small town.
Interesting about the plaster vs non-plaster casts. I would have thought the plaster would be better, more breathable etc. I'll have to do a quick search and see what the non plaster is composed of, and then find out what they used on my sisters leg.
You know, the more I learn about homeopathy, the more I realize I that know absolutely nothing and now have become terrified to suggest even 1 dose of Nux Vom 5ch to my husband when he awakes with a hangover . Powerful medicines!!!
Well, kids will be off to school soon, so I had better finish with the cleaning up so that I can get back to my books. Thanks again
Gini

PS - What dosage would be best in a situation like this. 1 dose Arn 200ch followed (how long after...wait and see?) by Rhus or Ruta (depending on what repped out the best) at a lower dose, perhaps 6ch as Ricky said 3 x a day, but for how long? Again wait and see??

Hello gini,

My recommendation would be Arnica to aid recovery to the original trauma and then the surgery. There is a substantial amount of healing to occur in an injury of this nature (Youch!). I would use one dose of 200C initially, only increasing to 1M if the pain is not alleviated substantially.

When physiotherapy begins it may be useful to use either Rhus tox or Ruta depending on the nature of the symptoms. Rhus tox stiffens, Ruta weakens, just a tip.
