Psychic Causes & Homeopathy Renewed:
Arsenicum iodatum shows a tendency to hyperactivity and, though not specifically listed in the homeopathic literature, may be bordering on hyperthyroidism. These patients are typically hurried, anxious, and excitable, prone to anger and impatience. This dynamic may lead to violence readily; yet, in Arsenicum iodatum, the aggressiveness is held in check, as is often seen in the perfection-oriented Arsenicum album patients as well. Increased demands and repression of impulses may lead into deepened pathology, such as corrosive discharges and malignant ulcerations, breast cancer, pneumonia, asthma, allergies, and eczema. Typically, the patient is warm-blooded, despite having a pale face; there occur thick, honey-like nasal and bronchial discharges and an asthmatic aggravation at 1:30 a.m. Asthmatic attacks tend to happen during the time between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m.
Arsenicum iodatum treats states of emaciation, prostration, and exhaustion, marked by hectic hyperactivity and restlessness, irritability, irresolution, and nervous anxiety. The respiratory system is a particularly weak spot in this remedy picture, presenting with asthma, tuberculosis, chronic bronchitis, and persistent pneumonia. Discharges are excoriating, watery during hay fever, honey-colored in chronic nasal catarrh, more often greenish-yellowish from the bronchi; hemorrhage from the lungs can occur. Attacks of coughing or asthmatic attacks typically set in at 1:30 a.m. in the night, and the patient must sit up to breathe; the time between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. shows a general worsening of the asthmatic condition. Night sweats are drenching, profuse. In tuberculosis, fever and rapid pulse are additional symptoms. The remedy is especially indicated in the early stages of tuberculosis. Generally, the patient is warm-blooded and has a good appetite and yet suffers from emaciation and a tendency to excoriating diarrhea. There is an inherent diathesis to malignancy, as found in breast tumors and epithelioma [carcinoma] of the lip. The skin exfoliates in large scales.
Arsenicum iodatum portrays a hyperactive, restless type, with anxiety and versensitiveness, as well as sadness and despondency. The psoriasis occurs in dry and scaly patches and itches and burns considerably. Those patches and other conditions of eczema or ulcers may exfoliate in large scales, leaving behind raw and exuding surfaces. The discharges may be bloody and corrosive, the latter being a characteristic of all Arsenicum iodatum discharges. During the night, heavy sweating brings discomfort, and asthmatic attacks happen during the time between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m., particularly at 1:30 a.m. Overall, one observes great prostration, weakness, emaciation despite a good appetite, and a tendency to chronically entrenched respiratory troubles.
