I saw the doctor yesterday and he confirmed that I have IBS.

Big sigh of relief

No tumours, thank heavens. Very healthy and attractive looking bowels!!!

Don't want to be too graphic but I could see the bowel in spasm. Which confirmed what I knew already, that my bowel thinks it has to give birth to itself on a daily basis.

I promise not to mention that again.

I'm determined not to let this get to me but see it as an opportunity for a new start. To reclaim my life.

Deb

I loved your description! Glad to know what is going on and that you are okay (well relatively). So now, what are your plans for treatment?

A diet that many have used is in the book "Breaking the vicious cycle" and tehre is a website to check out too - I'll get back to yoiu with the url for that.

Thanks for the link Barb, looks good!

I'll have a good look later. I'm interested in any such links or info.

What now? I'm not sure.... Frankly I feel like doing nothing. If that makes sense.

I just want to take it all in. I've been so wrapped up in taking the tests and just getting through it all.

I feel very relieved but I did sit down this afternoon and have a little cry and I'm not sure why; relief, or the implicetions of the diagnosis?

I don't know.

Again I just want to wrap myelf up somewhere far away, all alone and just BE. For some reason I can't seem to do that here.

Dear Deb,

Thanks for keeping us informed, glad to hear we have no pathology! This means homeopathy should work for sure. Keep Plb. in mind.

I've had many a patient with IBS - one a 21 yr old who was suicidal because her Doctor said she would have to live with it. You should be able to get a permanent cure with a constitutional remedy. If you want recommendations for a practitioner in your area contact me by the Private Mail icon.

Deb, perhaps you need to focus on taking a break by yourself somewhere nurturing.

Avalon, while I agree in practice with Lisa's experience of non-antidoting when practising a balanced use of substances, I think ingesting large quanities of pepermint oil if having taken a remedy that is antidoted by camphor would be pushing one's luck. Not all remedies are antidoted by camphor though.

Hello Deb,

I also have IBS. You probably already know that enteric-coated peppermint oil capsules are widely used to help control the spasticity of the bowel in this condition. (But in case you aren't familiar, the enteric coating is supposed to ensure that the oil is released only in the colon, not in the stomach where it can aggravate reflux, etc.) I do find that the occasional use of these capsules is helpful for spastic pain (especially around the menses).

Question is... would peppermint oil taken in this manner interfere with a remedy? What does everyone think? Let's say there is at least an eight-hour separation of the two--might that be okay? I was interested to read Lisa's comments about the fear of antidoting being exaggerated. If that's the case, perhaps we can have our remedy and eat our peppermint too.

Boy, did that sound familiar! Heard the same thing about, hmmm, four years ago. Although I was depressed about the whole thing, I thought I am not putting up with this. There has to be a better way.

Lo and behold, there was homoeopathy!

Debdell, don't worry, homoeopathy can and will help. Take a break, get yourself centred and then find yourself a really, really good practitioner.

I had to give up certain foods to contain the affliction [?], but with the help of homoeopathy I have been able to gradually reintroduce those foods - in moderation.

Best of luck.
