My 5 month old daughter has developed a fever (hovering at around 103degrees), for the past 8 hours or so. Have tried combination ABC (aconite, belladonna, chamomilla) doesn't seem to be having much effect. She's "dozy", sleeping on and off most of the evening, and only taking half of her normal feed. Her skin is dry and very hot apart from her legs, feet and hands which are cold.

Any ideas? For info, she has not been vaccinated. She is the last of the four children to get this fever, but it's so hard to know what symptoms are there in such a young lady!!

Help appreciated.....I'll check back through the night as I think I'll be up!

Dear Pennie,

Fever, heat of the body except cold extremities is Belladonna. Maybe the combination remedy was of a low potency, you may need a Belladonna 30C, a few pellets in water, and apply it to baby's lips, maybe every hour for 3 doses and then evaluate.

My daughter recently had a fever that was causing her mostly to sleep; her body too was very hot. She responded to Gelemium 30C--her extremities were very hot as well, and I had tried Belladonna, but it didn't work. I'm more inclined to think it's Bell. in your case. What potency do you have?

If you only have a low potency, put it in water, and give it every 10 or 15 minutes and evaluate after about an hour.

My daughter is better this morning, she had a rough night but was better propped up (possible sinus/breathing problems??). The heat has mostly gone, she's not red anymore and her eyes are looking a bit brighter.

She's still not 100% should I continue with the ABC do you think?

Snoopy......incidentally, I use mostly 30c potency.

Throw the ABC combo away, and don't buy combo remedies anymore. They are formulated solely to sell you a scientifically unsound mixture at an incredible mark up.

For one thing, aconite antidotes belladonna, and belladonna antidotes aconite and chamomilla.

So, basically, the manufacturer has sold you a combination of remedies which, when used separately but in sequence, antidote each others' effects.

One remedy at a time allows you to understand what is acting in the body clearly; it also allows you to manage the case, even in an acute ailment like the high fever your daughter suffered from.

The ABC combo did absolutely nothing in this case.

I'm glad to hear the baby is better. Have some Bell. 30C on hand for the next fever, if the symptoms are the same. I hope she'll be all right now.

Pennie, I think your ABC is not harmful for your baby, if it has given you appropriate result with out harming your baby's body. But prefer single remedy. Bell always have high temperature. If ever you feel high temp like 104 or 105. bell is recommended without taking symptom.

Thanks to all for advice. Sorry I haven't answered but there used to be a "reminder" email sent when you had a reply on the board, what happened to that?

Anyway, my daughter is still poorly, just can't seem to shake it off, her symptoms are different, the fever has gone, just a little up. Mucus which isn't moving and keeps her waking at night. Red rimmed eyes and yellow discharge. Sneezing and dry cough. Generally feeling sorry for herself, just wants company and has lost her bounce! Poor little mite!

I've since spoken to a local homeopath and have her on another remedy.....but would be interested to hear what anybody here thinks she should be on?
